Mike Tyson doesnât think itâs a good idea for Conor McGregor to fight for a UFC title upon his return.
McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) is nearing a comeback from a broken fibula he suffered in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier last July at UFC 264. The former UFC dual champion expressed interest in challenging welterweight champion Kamaru Usman right off the bat, but boxing legend Tyson thinks he needs to ease his way back.
âAfter a defeat, you should do a couple of fights to get your feet wet,â Tyson told Henry Cejudo on âThe Fight Cardâ podcast.
He continued, âConor, I think you should build your confidence up and go do what you do: win excitingly.â
Cejudo suggested McGregor fight the skidding Tony Ferguson, who was able to drop Michael Chandler early before ultimately getting knocked out by a devastating front kick at UFC 274. However, Tyson thinks even that wouldnât be an easy fight for McGregor.
âWell, thatâs a tough fight,â Tyson said. âHeâs a warrior, regardless if he loses, He makes exciting fights. Itâs hard to beat that guy. ⌠No big-time guy, let him get three fights and build his confidence back up. Every fight the opponent goes to a higher level.â
McGregor has lost three of his past four, with his lone win in that stretch coming over Donald Cerrone in January 2020. Tyson thinks McGregor needs a similar type of bounce-back matchup before fighting someone elite.
âEven if he wins, heâs gonna get hurt in the next fight, and he canât fight the next fight,â Tyson added. âYou get your experience down, three more fights, you feel good, the beat the last two guys are really qualified opponents, now you go back out there.â
Whatâs Lou Savarese up to these days?
Eat his children and fuck that faggot until he loves you.
Praise Allah
I donât know, but his cousin Terry Savarese was the coolest high school truant officer to ever live.
In Boxing it would be easier to take Tysons approach. At Conorâs level in MMA there will be no tuneups or confidence building fights
Everyone who has made it to the UFC are good, this aint boxing where you can have tune up fights. FIghting a guy that is 5-30 in record
- Michael Johnson
- Jim Miller-Bobby Green winner
- Tony Ferguson
Iâm still not sure he goes 3-0 but thatâs about the only path I see as I look at the top 50 rankings. The main problem is he has to main event PPVs and these fights arenât it.
Rocky IV
He lives too comfortably now.
I can see from Conorâs perspective why he wants to go big or go home with Usman because he has very little chance of going 3-0 against those guys.
Heâs hoping lightening can strike and he can ride into the sunset with another title, and if he loses, he has the built in excuse that he moved up and fought a killer.
Yeah, he is playing with house money. If he loses to a top of the food chain opponent, no big loss of the shine relatively speaking, but losing to a perceived tune up, huge hit, and itâs over.
Conor is fag
Cowboy vs Conor 2!
