The records will fall at Saturday's UFC 124 event.

During today's pre-event press conference, UFC president Dana White said both the North American MMA attendance and worldwide MMA gate records will be broken with the show.

The UFC boss said Montreal's Bell Centre will draw more than 23,000 fans and produce a gate of more than $5 million for the heavily anticipated show.

Both marks also will break the UFC's current records. They're currently held by UFC 97 in Montreal (21,451 attendees) and UFC 66 in Las Vegas ($5,397,300 live gate).

x 100

The Toronto card will crush this.

I think Shockwave did 90,000 in Japan. Not even close to that yet.

I'm sure there will be records broken for illegal streams, too

lulz

Didn't the K1 card in LA have more people than that?

Shockewave did 75K attendance if I recall.

The gate was not 5 Million though. That will be a legit record.

I believe the records reference are for MMA in North America.

71k for 7million I believe I just read. I'll try to find you a source and get back.

 It's from Meltzer's newsletter dated 12/13/10.

"The world record for the sport would not be possible even using the full configuration. A 2002 show in Tokyo at the outdoor National Stadium during the heyday of Pride and K-1 in Japan, headlined by Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Mirko Cro Cop, drew 71,000 fans and $7 million."

Junkie story:

"Both marks also will break the UFC's current records. They're currently held by UFC 97 in Montreal (21,451 attendees) and UFC 66 in Las Vegas ($5,397,300 live gate)."

Meltzer from the same newsletter:

"The company announced 21,451 fans for its return to Montreal on April 18, 2009, for UFC 97, headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leitis and Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. However, even though that event was sold out and that was the number of tickets out, the actual number in the building was several thousand less because of scalpers buying so many tickets on the first day they went on sale based on the success of the first show, and they couldn’t unload a lot of them at the end."

He also states that the UFC 100 gate was bigger than 66, but that could be because his numbers include closed circuit and Junkies dont:

"The company record gate is $5,441,290 set for UFC 100, Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, including both live and Las Vegas closed circuit sites."

Slowly approaching Pride numbers. Phone Post

"...worldwide MMA gate records will be broken with the show."

Wordldwide for the UFC maybe. Not even close to Pride numbers. I doubt we'll ever see numbers like that in the states.

Will MMAjunkie print a retraction now? lol
