UFC and Sportsnet Fallout?

SportsNet, The Canadian TV property with the current UFC contract has just cancelled Joe Ferraro's UFC Central

Details here via Joe Ferraro's facebook post:

There are rumours the UFC contract is up for negotiation and a deal may not be struck.  This development furthers those rumours.

Sad develpment as UFC Central was one of the better MMA programs in Canada.

UFC might just try to see if they can get a better deal from TSN. TSN with 5 channels, and no NHL any more, might be a better fit for the UFC right now anyways. And despite losing hockey, TSN is still the number 1 channel in Canada. Could easily see TSN paying more than they should to try and get content.

As long as James Duthie and his cheesy dork jokes has nothing to do with it, and none of their quirky weird improv actor desk anchors I'm all for it. There's two mins of puns and bad interplay before you get scores with those people like the ones that moved over the Fox Sports One, which seem to be REALLY helping the ratings LMAO. Americans seem to REALLY be all over the cheeseball pornostache beaten dead horse looks and jokes.

They have a bunch of Dane Cooks that simpletons love to watch doing the update desk but TSN is a cultural icon where Sportnet isn't, and as you say, no more Hockey or MLB means they need internation content, the CFL and Curling aren't gonna cut it now. Young people watch sportsnet where as the older generations watch TSN, they need to appeal over with the UFC or something.

i liked ufc central but with FightPass (TM) I can watch cards that are on SN in hd (i don't have hd SN) so not too big a deal for me.

Makes sense but I doubt TSN can compete with Rogers if comes down to just money.

That said, TSN can probably give them more time on air which would be more ad and marketing revenue since Rogers has hockey now. Phone Post 3.0

"I would tell (fans who are concerned) they’re going to be watching it on TV,” Wright said. “We’re in the process (of negotiating), and we’ll have something to announce in about four to six weeks."

Spot on, as usual.

However, I'm a huge Bobby Mac fan and shame on you if you aren't too.

TSN is owned by ESPN so I'm sure they can toss the ol' wallet around a bit as well. UFC will end up with a better deal now that TSN will be in picture. SN got them at a bargain last time.

One is prime time though. I understand people like them, no one I know, but people who might watch Fox Sports so maybe they are what do I know.

Nah nah, Dave Hodge, Bob McCown, Bob MacKenzie, Steven Brunt, Dave perkins.

Best in Toronto no particular order. If Hodge and MacKenzie were on Sportsnet I wouldn't have a reason to watch TSN
