UFC has never had better Champs

In terms of talent and accomplishment.

Demetrious Mighty Mouse Johnson 27-2-1 record on 13 fight win streak, 11 consecutive title defenses. The one and only UFC 125 lbs. Champion ever and his belt is 5 1/2 years old. Very historic individual, we likely won't appreciate him fully until after he's gone.

TJ Dillashaw- 15-3  look at TJ's win over 26-5 Assuncao at UFC 200, Raphael is 10-1 in his last 11 fights  and the loss to TJ is his only loss in that stretch. Sure TJ lost to then 20-1 Dom Cruz via split decision, but some think he won that. Such elite competition taking the belt from 11-0 Cody Garbrandt. Dillashaw is 7-1 in his last 8 fights and a 4x UFC Champion with 2 title defenses

Max Holloway - 19-3 overall. 12 fight win streak. Has not lost in over 4 years. 3X UFC Champ. Unified his belt through Aldo, beat a former UFC Champ in Pettis. Will go up in weight if possible, always looking for the toughest challenges and faces another great former UFC Champion in Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 March 3rd.

Conor McGregor 21-3 record. No unavenged UFC defeats. 9-1 in the UFC, 6 KO/TKOs in those fights. 3X UFC Champion, 2 weight World Champion. The top sports celebrity in the world today.

Tony Ferguson 23-3 record. Incredible work ethic, willing to defend promptly against unstoppable 25-0 Khabib Nurmagomedov in what promises to be the best MMA fight ever on paper. 10 fight win streak.

Tyron Woodley 18-3-1 overall. 4X UFC Champ, beat some of the most difficult challenges in Gastelum, Lawler, Thompson and Maia. D-1 wrestler with devastating KO power. Very difficult to beat because he has a mind for studying combat sports and some of the best preparation through that willingness to learn.

Robert Whittaker 19-4 with a 8-0 record at Middleweight in the UFC. In actuality we already have to be discussing the Reaper for best MW of all time, the wins over Brunson, Jacare and Romero are just that significant, considering Yoel was 8-0 in the UFC going into the title fight with Whittaker. Young guy at 27 years old hopefully he heals up well.

Daniel Cormier  20-1-1 DC has defended the belt 3 times already, 4 or 5x UFC Champ, 2x US Olympian. Capable of fighting up in weight at Heavyweight having won the Strikeforce HWGP. Colorful commentator, excellent coach and Champion. Personally I prefer the bad guy, but you have to respect role models like DC. Overlooked in terms of greatness, one of the best ever.

Stipe Miocic - 18-2 speaking of greatness look no further than the greatest UFC Heavyweight of all time. 3 consecutive title defenses the most ever. 12-2 in the octagon he has built up his experience against the best opposition, with wins over 5 different UFC/Strikeforce Champions. When Stipe fought Francis Ngannou they combined for 11 consecutive victories in the UFC HW division, the 2nd? most in UFC history for a HW title fight.

Great thread. Educational!

Cosign this most accurate and awesome post!

Not sure about bobby knuckles as the best MW ever but agree with the overall sentiment

I didn’t want to snub the ladies. It feels as if the WMMA divisions lack the historical context to say the UFC has never had better Champs, will 145 lbs. still exist after Cyborg? Nicco Montano was just crowned as the first ever women’s Flyweight Champion.

We can look back at the men’s divisions and ascertain that today they feature arguably the best fighter in the history of that division as Champion.

Thanks for reading.

  • Tyron Woodley: Performance bonuses in 3 of his last 6 fights. 4 bonuses overall.
  • Robert Whittaker: Performance bonuses in 5 of his last 7 fights. 5 bonuses overall.
  • Daniel Cormier: Performance bonuses in 4 of his last 7* fights. 4 bonuses overall. (*One fight was NC; one was a non-title fight.)
  • Stipe Miocic: Performance bonuses in 6 of his last 8 fights. 8 bonuses overall.

[Notable former champs' performance bonus tallies: Anderson Silva - 13; Frankie Edgar - 10; Jon Jones & Lyoto Machida - 8; several with 7.]

Incorrect on Stipe vs Ngannou having most consecutive HW wins, JDS vs Cain combined for 14 consecutive wins when they fought the first time

Otherwise, awesome thread, hard to disagree with most of it

.. Although on second thought, the combo of GSP, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, and Cain Velasquez felt pretty unbeatable a few years ago

Somehow it’s also the least interesting set of champs at one time.

Tony sticks out as not on the level as the rest. He’s only holding onto Conor’s belt anyway though.

Whittaker is about two big fights away from being great as well.

Woodley is just coming into his own as great.

But yeah, it’s hard out there for a contender right now.

Great post. have to edit my other thread, I tried to compile the title fights with most combined consecutive wins, a regrettably tall task. Now I'm sure it's missing more fights.&nbsp;</p>

Apart from Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, BJ Penn and GSP, yea, these guys are the best UFC Champs ever.

And putting Whittaker on the list of best MWs ever, dude, don’t smoke during the week.

I certainly understand your point, but 3 of those listed have been suspended and pulled from fights.

GSP abandoned the title without ever losing, he needs to fight Woodley or Askren to once again prove he’s the best Welterweight of all time. Beating the two AWA Champions would make GSP undeniably the GOAT of MMA.

Jacare was 24-4 and 7-1 in the UFC(only loss a split decision to Romero) when Whittaker beat him. Romero was 8-0 in the UFC when he lost to Rob. Brunson was 7-1 in the UFC, riding a 5 fight win streak.

What I’m saying is he never lost at MW and never had any controversy.

Woodley? Nah.

Sinead O Connors Nipples -

Woodley? Nah.

Well GSP just won a world title at 185 lbs. He’s free to fight Woodley or Askren. Tyron is only 1 year younger, Ben 3 years younger. It’s not like GSP’s necessarily from a different generation or inactive as a fighter anymore, sure he started fighting 7 years before them both, he also took 4 years off and has more experience.

It makes sense for GSP to finish up where he left off @ 170 lbs. next

There’s two guys from one camp that can both validly claim to be better than GSP at WW. Greater? Of course not. Better? Sure. Askren never lost a fight! So GSP should start with him first.

GSP is the greatest Welterweight Champ. But he can’t just retire on top the way he did @ 170 lbs.

If Matt Hughes had simply walked away riding a 6 fight win streak when he was 41-4 with 7 successful title defenses after TKO’ing BJ Penn, how would that have effected the GSP that went on beat Hughes in his next fight?
