At first I was annoyed at the "Conor will try to hold both belts simultaneously" shit, but I think it's the UFC hedging their bets. What I mean is, I think the biggest thing they want to do right now is guarantee McGregor defending a title at UFC 200. This does exactly that.
If he beats RDA, he'll have enough time to heal up and be ready to fight at UFC 200. If he holds true to his word and wants to defend both, he'd fight Frankie at 145 at UFC 200. However, I think this could all be bullshit...meaning, he plans to vacate the 145 pound title if he beats RDA and stay at 155, which would mean he'd fight someone like Pettis, Alvarez etc at 155 at UFC 200. I think the "defend both" talk is just in case he loses to RDA.
In that scenario, he'd still be the champion at 145, and would go back to 145 to defend that belt against Frankie at UFC 200. By not making him vacate it now, it virtually guarantees they can have him defend a belt at UFC 200. If they had him vacate it now, Frankie and Aldo fight for the title, then Conor loses to RDA, then what? They could certainly have him fight the winner of Aldo/Frankie to win back the belt, but if the champ is injured, Conor has no belt to fight for.
In the scenario I painted above, Conor doesn't vacate it, is the champion at 145 and defends a belt no matter what at UFC 200. It doesn't matter if people get injured. If Edgar is hurt, they can plug in Aldo. As long as Conor is healthy, he defends a belt at UFC 200.
Smart plan, honestly.
And I love Frankie, and don't feel bad for him at all in this scenario. March is right around the corner, and he can wait 2 months to see who he's fighting. If it's Conor, great...get ready for UFC 200. They aren't asking him to wait a year. 7 months isn't ideal, but the payday would be worth it.
If Conor wins and decides to vacate the 145 pound belt...no big deal, Frankie gets his title fight against Aldo in May.
I think what the UFC is doing here ultimately will work out best for everyone. I doubt Conor defends both belts for years (not sure he beats RDA honestly) and I don't think waiting 2 months to see who Frankie fights for the 145 pound title is that big of a deal.
Or they could just setup his first title defense for UFC 200 and have him defend his belt for the first time ever like any other fighter who has just gotten the belt.
Personally I'd like to see Rousey/Holm and Lawler/Condit for UFC 200. Throw Conor's first title defense somewhere on the main card I suppose
its setting up a superfight, something people have been bitching for years to see. With one champ going after a title in a higher weightclass. It creates buzz and is a win for everyone no matter what the outcome.

Rickmassmma -Let me re-word that slightly for you then; I'd like to see rematches of the Rousey/Holm and Lawler/Condit fights at UFC 200 as the main and co-main with Conor's first title defense @ 145lb somewhere down the card.JBASS - Or they could just setup his first title defense for UFC 200 and have him defend his belt for the first time ever like any other fighter who has just gotten the belt.

Sorry for the horrible wording^ lol. Unless coner loses he is the main event every time lol
Conor* I'll stop posting today...lol
RDA is gonna tool him
JBASS -McGregor will be the main event on any card until he loses a fight or two. That's how it is, and that's the way it should be. He's a guy who just won the belt, you'd think he's Jon Jones or Fedor or someone of that caliber. Sorry mate - he isn't and probably won't ever be. He's got years of work to do before he gets close to that kind of legacy.
Admiral Iraqbar -Yeah I'm not seeing that either. I agree, his legacy isn't that of Jones or Fedor.
But the UFC is a business, and Conor is more of a mainstream star than those two combined.
You don't have to believe in his fight skills to recognize his star caliber.
I think its a very risky gamble.
With the right cut, TKO, injury, etc..... no UFC 200 fight due to medical suspension. Win or lose RDA is dangerous.
DWray -Yeah I will agree that he is a good, scrappy little fighter. GSP
Chuck

Randy
Cowboy and Faber to an extent
Those guys had or have star caliber IMO. I honestly wonder what the fuss is about. Like I said he just won the belt, he's got plenty of work ahead of him

You really don't get it? He doesn't have alot of work ahead of him. He sells or "moves the needle". Creates buzz and more people want to see him in a big fight than Cowboy and Faber. The rest of those guys are done.
I don't like Connor that much either but the guy is a star.
