The WEC got too big for their britches & was out performing the UFC,so the UFC merged the two together.

Spike TV fight night with Mike Goldberg & Joe Rogan felt like the Monday Night Nitro version of UFC.
I liked the Strikeforce/ Elite XC challenger series events. PFL tried it last night, it wasn’t the same. MMA is in a weird place.

I just rewatched Machida vs Weidman, and man to me it just had such a better feel & flow with no uniform & Joe & Goldie commentating. It’s too sterile now.

The worst thing that happened to mma was ufc buying up Pride. You are exactly right. Oddly I had forgotten pride even existed until you just mentioned it.

Pride was going to fold anyways because they lost their Tv deal.The UFC swooped them up for around 60 million,but the Yakuza caused too much interference in Japan.

1000% agree with the over saturation .
Like 30 odd podcasts a week, mainly ufc focused. Weigh in show, fake weigh ins, embedded which is the same predictable formula. Countdown show which again, feels too predictable. Loads of little tit bits across socials.
Just too much to try and keep up with even for people who are balls deep. By the time the fights come, I’m exhausted.
Too many shit cards too no matter what Anik says. I’m over cards with nobody’s and 1 good fight on it

I mentioned this every month, but I fucking hate John Aniks favorite line he says atleast once per UFC card “in UFC history”.

UFC cards have some great fights and a lot of boring fights.
Pride knew they were in the entertainment business.
I fucking miss the pride lady announcer so much.
When the cage is used it often makes for boring fights. Not sure if a ring is the best possible solution but I think it’s superior to the cage.
Nowadays 90+% of fighters all have similar skillsets. Making for fairly boring fights. Not sure that can be blamed on the ufc though, rather it’s just the era. So many MMA gyms and guys with similar background learning the same things.
Even though venom is far far superior to Reebok the uniforms make everything… uniform. Bland. This takes away from a fighters ability to market themselves.
Imagine chuck liddel in a uniform.
I also think they really need a ramp. Without the ramp, no entrance is special. It takes away from the fighters ability to be seen and make themselves known or unique.

Either way, the UFC are hurting themselves by not allowing fighters to differentiate themselves with unique trunks. It plays into the marketing.
Theres so many fighters that all look the same and fight the same now.
Especially the undercards.
