Look @JackMerridew. Normal posters use this thread to talk about the division. You have made hundreds of other Khabib/Islam threads, why don’t you just use them to continue your shtick and give it a rest in this thread.
Many believe Islam isn’t a worthy contender just yet. He needs a win against at least a current top 10 if not top 5. Being undefeated and impressively beating guys who aren’t highly ranked or taking a fight short-notice is great and all, but not exactly contender-worthy. If Khabib didn’t exist, people wouldn’t be pushing for Islam, given the aforementioned.
Conor was the champ, is the most famous MMA fighter in history, and would make Charles rich. I don’t blame him for the callout. Fighting Islam would do absolutely nothing for Charles in that way. Nothing.
Let’s see Islam beat someone worthy of attaining contender status first. That will actually prove him as a contender as well as increase his draw to make a matchup for the belt actually worthy.
I get what you’re saying about Islam needing another big win, and that would make sense if there was someone else more deserving of a shot…but it’s stupid to say that nobody has earned a shot, so fuck it let’s throw a guy coming off 2 straight losses in for a title shot.
A win over dos Anjos (32-13 MMA, 20-11 UFC) would mark Fiziev’s sixth straight and the striking specialist thinks a fight with former two-time title challenger Justin Gaethje (23-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) makes sense for him after it.
“Yeah, if everything goes good I see one more fight and fight for the belt shortly,” Fiziev told Submission Radio. “I see maybe somebody, maybe Gaethje or Poirier after. Poirier’s going to 170, yeah? Maybe Gaethje next one. We’ll see. We’ll see, but after this fight, if all goes well, I want one more fight and then a title shot.”
A fight with Gaethje appears to have added incentive for Fiziev, who’s irked by “The Highlight’s” recent comments post-losses. Gaethje is coming off a first-round submission loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 274, falling short in his pursuit of gold for a second time.
“Bro, Gaethje, he’s crazy,” Fiziev said. “He smokes a lot, or he eat punches a lot? I don’t know what he does, but sometimes he talks sh*t and then I don’t understand him. ‘Oh, I’ll make hell for Khabib.’ What you make hell for him? What? You’re going for a triangle and you’re going to sleep, and same with Oliveira.
“He’s just talking. I don’t like when people are just talking and not do this. Yeah, OK, you can make one time talking and you can’t make it, and afterwards, stop. Stop talking. But this guy, he’s not stopping. He doesn’t stop. He’s just talking and talking and talking.”
It’s not about what Charles wants, but rather Conor. I’m sure Charles understands that, and that’s why he’s trying to get Conor’s interest.
Conor will fight practically anyone he wants. Yes, he’s that big and the UFC knows it. They aren’t going to throw massive amounts of PPV money away and further would love if Conor, the most famous UFC/MMA fighter ever, could hold a belt again.
I agree, and the UFC doesn’t have to kiss Charles’ ass to make that happen. If Charles demands PPV points for the fight, they make Islam vs Conor for the belt and hope they can lean into all the Khabib vs Conor hype.
Charles takes the Conor fight without PPV points if that’s what the UFC is offering.
