Early in his career did Marcelo have a match with Schembri? 
Marcelo signed a 1 year deal in 2007 with K1/Dreams to fight MMA.
He even moved to Florida to train with American Top Team for that year. During that time, the promoters screwed him out of money, and cancelled three fights on him. He had no idea when he would fight, so he was basically in a 12 month fight camp.
I'm pretty sure this soured him on the idea of MMA, and he moved back to NYC- where he now has a very successful academy where he is happy training and teaching BJJ.

I'd love to see him in a role as THE BJJ guy of the UFC. IDK, maybe as a color commentator they can bring in to break down any submissions, transitions, sweeps etc in between rounds. Kind of like how the news channels bring in military guys to talk tactics, politicos for policy issues, etc. I'd certainly listen to anything Garcia had to say about BJJ.

The guys a beast destroys some of UFCs top fighters on his website during filmed rolls and always with a huge smile.
I'd rather not see Marcelo get punched and kicked in the head. And I think hes too nice of a guy to give it back with bad intentions.

If he were to do MMA I would MUCH prefer it be in a ring with a 10 minute round where he could work his BJJ a bit more. Cage has allowed people with good BJJ and wrestling negate someone with elite BJJ and/or wrestling. It's still great MMA, but I prefer to see BJJ players fight MMA I. A ring.

I don't see him returning to mma.... His academy is doing great. He's got a child.... He hasn't even returned to bjj competition yet...I think he feelis like he's in a good place.

He is only a multiple time BJJ world champion so he would def have to go through TUF. You have to come out of the WWE to get a direct spot.
