He lost in eye in battle. He’s blind in one eye and he kept his dead eye.
He’s from Dagestan, of course he can grapple, but he uses it sparingly like Ankalaev, Umar or Yan and is primarily a striker.

The eye is dead. It doesn’t work. He had it damaged and kept fighting with it until it looks liked this.
But unlike a British sissy like Bisping he did not have it cosmetically repaired.

Looking forward to his debut! Good addition to the UFC middleweight division, Nikal and now this guy along with Chimaev, Alex, Izzy etc. Middleweight is definitely looking deeper
