Unseen - It's not just about the UFC. What about the bar's competitors that did shell out the licensing fee? <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
almost upgraded my mudname just to vote you up for this spot on logic.
twodragunns - I've been supporting the UFC by purchasing seats to live events, purchasing ppv's, and buying shit from the UFC store since this all started, so I think this makes me a long time fan of the UFC brand. I've come to see the UFC for what it really is, and that is a mega money hungry monopoly that stops at nothing to earn $$$. This has meant skyrocketing prices for seats as well as ppv's and clothing apparel. The UFC are pricing out many of their long term hard core fans with these now ridiculous prices for their products and I've come to the point where I don't buy their ppv's or seats anymore. DW and the Fertitta's need to take a long look at their seat and ppv pricing and rethink that strategy and possibly make some pricing adjustments then watch the sport grow even more. This could very well bring former fans back as well as welcome new ones who could now financially enjoy this sport. I believe the UFC are pricing themselves out of their biggest fan base with the current pricing.
Possibly but when they did 55k in Montreal while Strikeforce had to paper the house with another extra 3000 seats in Memphis just so the broadcast looked ok for tv, then you have to realize the pricing is working great in most locations especially considering all their recent sellouts at most live venues and consistent 500k+ ppv numbers.
The run on sentence was to match your run on paragraph. ;)
TrumpetDan - My jiu jitsu gym had been having UFC get togethers at our gym. No charge..pot luck...15-20 ppl..somebody just brought a receiver and we hooked it up at the gym
We got sued for $100,000. We settled out of court.
Now THAT is fucked. Shame on the UFC for this.
Also, watch your back when rolling, you have a snitch in the house.

just out curiosity were you promoting it all, like EVERYONE COME DOWN TO "name" GYM AND WATCH FIGHTS! how long were you doing it? i think that makes a world of difference. also, can you ball park us on the settlement $'s?
Nameless1 - Haven't read thread ...... Without saying too much I know of 2 small bars in the Midwest that are being sued right now and I believe it's for the same March ppv in the OP. If not it was the one after . By small bar I mean seating capacity of 250 MAX with around 40 people at peak during the ppv at each bar . They are being sued for 25,000 each for that 1 ppv . An undercover person for UFC/ZUFFA/???media group made contact with the bar via Facebook when it was posted that the ppv would be shown asking for directions and info or whatever. They recorded it being shown at the bar and served papers shortly thereafter .
This bar is a business . Pays it's monthly dish network bill with a business check . Dish network just upgraded all receivers to HD at the bar (business) . Dish network never informed the business of the difference in ppv pricing . Dish network never charged the ppv at the higher rate. No cover charge was taken. Small bar in small town . Kinda fucked deal IMO .
Scream13 - quick story, (happened a little after UFC 90)
While Job Hunting-I came across a C/L add, it said do you like the UFC and MMA, Do you want to work for them? It seemed weird, as why would they be posting CL chicago. I sent an email and said i was interested, and it turned out to be a law firm that was in fact associated with the UFC (I checked)
Basically, it went like this. On Friday's they would send me a list of approved bars to be playing the PPV's. My "job" would be to call bars that weren't on the list and find out if they would be showing the fights. If I found one, my job would be to go to the bar, take photos (or video) of the place with the fights on the screens- and fill out a questionnaire. Things like what was the bar tenders name, how many ppl were there, was there promo material promoting the event? How many screens were showing the fights? It got really specific like who was your waitress, what was she wearing? Was there a cover charge? It was 3 pages long, and after I filled it out, I was to take it to a notary to get notarized. I was then to bundle it all up,and send it to these guys. if the bar wasn't on the list-I would get 300$
It seemed really weird to do this for me, So i never did it, and I only knew one bar that really did it-and it was a local spot of mine. I wasn't going to sell those guys out either.
I know cool story bro, but I imagine thats how these places get caught. I just wanted to note that they have been doing it for a while.
You aren't too far from the story I'm familiar with.

We have a pretty good idea who reported us.
As far as advertising, we announced it in class and told people they were welcome to bring friends and family and enjoy the fights together.
We would sometimes tell people dropping in checking out the gym that we are all friends outside of the gym and we have get togethers to watch the fights.
