UFC thought Conor would lose

That's why he's booked to coach against Faber. Had he lost, they would be fighting. Now that he's won, it's just a way of keeping him on TV. Anyone else agree? Phone Post 3.0

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

but also could be that TUF is dying so they want to sprinkle some of that McGregor gold dust on it

Dude, please. They had 2 plans. One for a loss, one for a win.

Why is this the plan for a win? Phone Post 3.0

I read here somewhere he had a bad knee injury and needed time off. This would make sense in that context. Phone Post 3.0

Exactly as you said in the OP - had he lost, he'd be fighting Faber. As it is, he keeps a high profile, pumps some life into TUF and he and Aldo have time to sort out any issues they have (ribs/knee etc)

I just don't see it. If anything, TUF is so bland and pointless by now that it could take some of the shine and mystique off McGregor by associating him with it. Why take something new and exciting and shackle it to something old and dull?
I think they just expected him to lose. Phone Post 3.0

I agree. It will take away from the mcgregggor mystic.

especially boring against a guy like Faber. A guy he's not even going to fight...or anyone is interested in seeing them fight.

Maybe they want to keep Faber as an option in case Aldo pulls out again? Would be a smart move, god knows they must be getting sick of the injuries

They're hoping it will be the other way around.

They no longer understand, if they ever did, what makes people like their product. They think this will help bring eyes back to TUF.

The problem with TUF is that it has simply run its course. People know there hasn't been much decent, long-term talent since the first few seasons and the UFC just refuses to fiddle with the format in any significant way.

They pressed the lever once, years back, and it gave them a food pellet. It no longer does but they're still obsessively pressing it.

TUF's for the kids, not hardcores.

I'd imagine it's still getting an ok viewership.
