UFC 2009 Undisputed Review
A frustrating career mode tarnishes what is an otherwise outstanding fighting game.

Presentation  8.0
Visual  8.5
Audio  7.0
Gameplay  8.5
Replay Value 7.0
Pros:       Combat depth is incredible; playing against friends is a blast; combat boils down to skill over button mashing; some of the moves look incredibly painful.
Cons:       Learning curve is ridiculously steep; career mode is a bust; fighting against computer is about luck as much as skill; voice over’s get a bit repetitive.

There’s something very primal about the Ultimate Fighting Championship fights that really gets the blood pumping. Whether it’s the fact that some of the beatings these people endure are so raw and brutal or if you just like seeing some of the displays of fighting prowess these events have become immensely popular for a reason. The video games, while of generally decent quality, have left quite a bit to be desired in actually capturing the violent glory of these fights. Until the release of UFC Undisputed that is. What we have here is the first video game to actually live up to the UFC brand.

Would love the game if I could actually submit people.

turn on the stamina bar, when it gets low, submit him

took me like 3 weeks to figure that shit out haha

As if Old Man Kirik knows anything about videogames! Besides, I think using an electrical appliance with your wetsuit on might be dangerous. Get back to the shuffleboard with Grandpa Probst before someone gets hurt! ;)

I have both games, and both have pros and cons. Honestly though, I've gotten bored quickly with FNR4. I think it's a great game, but it just seems very repetitive to me.

Yea I did that, and I still can't submit even the lowest level grappler with the highest level guy.

The only way I can pull it off, is if I beat them within a inch of their life then maybe I can land one.

This is the only part of the game I have issues with everything else no prob's, takedown's, ground transition's everything else works great.

I have played one video game in my life, was UFC Undisputed, was fun :-)

I disagree with a lot of the cons they had.

I think Rogan and Goldberg did an exceptional job on the commentary. I've owned the game for probably about a month now, have had over 200 fights, and am still hearing new stuff from them that I haven't heard before.

The learning curve isn't THAT ridiculously steep. Maybe compared to other fighting games, but if you put the time in to learn it, your experience will be fun. It's just like MMA in real life...if you only focus on one aspect of it, you're only going to attain a certain level of success.

Submitting people is no doubt a challenge. Matchups play a huge role in who submits who, but even that is not guaranteed for the human player against the computer. I'd like to see a little more ease in submitting people (Ricardo Almeida on Chris Leben's back using a RNC should pretty much be a wrap, but it's usually 50/50 at best), but overall, the system isn't too bad, but there has to be a lot of factors in place to pull off a sub, whereas KO's are much easier, in theory to perform. But then again, that's pretty much how the real UFC is.

Overall, I think it's an excellent game with a lot of depth and replayability. A great first effort by THQ in what will hopefully (and is expected to be) a yearly franhise.

I'm still summoning the desire to rent Fight Night Round 4.

$9.50 per rental at Blockbuster is a lot of money.

For those of you who have played Rd.4 and last years, be honest....how much different is Rd.4? Seriously. Can you give me some of the things that were improved upon? How is the career mode this time around?

I really want to rent it, but there's other stuff like Resident Evil 5 that I want to play as well.

FN3 seems to be alot more fun for me than FN4. I think UFC Undisputed is fun also, probably moreso than FN4.

The UFC game is alot deeper due to the many techniques you can use. The FN games are very repetitive.

are you rotating the stick? if so, try mashing the X,Y buttons as fast as you can. i can normally submit people quick using that method. some people may tell you that the rotating method is better, but if its not working for you now, you might as well try mashing the buttons. remember, you dont have to mash all of the buttons, just X and Y.

Anyways, the game is overrated and FN4 puts it to shame. Fight Night 4 is probably a top 3 sports game of alltime. It is simply incredible.

Can you use buttons to punch in FN 4?

Timely Review...

How do you get out of mount??.... I get knocked out everytime.
