UFN88: A mini135lb tournament.

We could be witnessing one in Las Vegas on May.29th

In the main event we've got two undefeated up and comers in the divison. Cody Garbrand vs Thomas Almeida.

Garbrandt is a product of Team Alpha male, and there is alot of hype behind him. He has a nice amateur boxing record at 32-1 but he is still relatively new to the division. He is being pushed hard because of his impressive wins, exciting style, and because of his team.

If he wins this fight you could make an argument that he'd be ready for the title fight because of his unbeaten record, but he still is untested against the top 10 of the division, and he will have a tough fight against Thomas Almedia.

The Terminator has been beating cab drivers, but he's beaten all of them. Seeing a 20-0 record in MMA is impressive and rare. Since coming to the UFC he's been fighting tought gritty fights. With a win over Garbrandt you would have to give him atleast top 5.

He puts on exciting and stylish fights. People are excited to see him fight. He could also get a title shot after this fight. But the main event fighters arn't the only ones who think that they deserve a title shot.

On the fightpass prelim main event, or "The People's main event" we have Bryan Caraway fighting against Aljamain Sterling.

Caraway has been fighting the best of the division for a long time. He is one of the most underated fighters in the division. He had a great performance against Eddie Wineland and he wanted to get a top 5 opponent. Well he got what he wanted.

Funkmaster is undefeated in the division. He is ranked number 4, he is fighting the most veteran of the division. If I had to pick someone who would deserve the shot the most if they won, it would be Sterling. He's got all the qualities you want. He comes from a well known team, He is undefeated. He is defeated high ranked fighters. He is stylish and people love him. He tested out free agency and was able to make a deal with the UFC. I think even the UFC wants him to do well.

But are any of them more deserving than the other? Maybe the fighter to put on the best show tonight will get the shot. Or do you think it will be more like a tournament?

The winners of these two fights could fight for the legit, no argument, number 1 contender.

What do you guys think?

Solid prediction. I can agree with it all but I think it is Caraway that wins the split decision.

Is there anyone else more deserving than these guys in the division to get the shot?

Lol at the "impressive wins" of Garbrandt! Granted the dude finishes and looks good but by no means are his wins better than the apparent "taxi drivers" like Brad Pickett! Garbrandt was KO'd in the amateurs, fancy it to happen again here.. Aljo should get a shot with a win! Can't see Caraway beating him.. Why they don't push him more is beyond me! He had a serious shave with free agency and they stick him on Fight Pass? Ridiculous! Phone Post 3.0

Great post, I'm looking forward to these fights. A fight between the winners would defintely be no 1 contender but given the lack of obvious title contenders at 135 I don't think they'll face each other especially if they both have standout performances.

I'm not so sure that the UFC want Aljamain to do well though. They've put him on the Fight Pass prelims of a Fight Night card, which seems a strange way to promote him. Although I did just go on ufc.com and there is a feature article about him so it's hard to tell.

Fight pass prelims will always have one solid fight, that's how they sell fight pass Phone Post 3.0

It's all part of the UFC's new push for Fight Pass. I can see more of these type of match ups being on the "prelim main event". They have been pushing this one hard on social media.

So you are predicting that two judges will go for Sterling and the other for Caraway? I get that it may be close but that's still a weird thing to predict will happen. Phone Post 3.0

I can see him getting another title shot after a solid win on UFC 200.

Rematch with Cruz or Master vs Student. Sells itself either way.

None of these guys get a title shot. If tj wins his fight against assuncao he is definitely getting it.

If assuncao wins (he wont) i can see him getting it as well.

Id say winner of both these fights should fight each other for title shot after dillashaw/assuncao Phone Post 3.0
