My cousin asked me to help his buddy out who is having his first fight. Just wanted to work his ground game. I'm a reasonably decent blue belt under roger Gracie so I thought I could maybe add a tiny bit of value. After about 30 seconds on the mat it becomes obvious this kid has zero ground game and had never even been put in a triangle. I started asking him about the fight... He doesn't even know who he's fighting or even the exact date... It's in about six weeks... So now I'm thinking this kid is being fed to someone or at the very least badly underprepared. The kid is game and tough but so raw it's scary. We did a few rounds of boxing and takedowns and I had to teach the kid how to sprawl and find range for a td. I'm thinking I should tell him to not fight and find a better coach here in adelaide. I go back to Sydney today and can't help him anymore. Any advice or suggestions?
Tell him don't take the fight because he's not prepared and 6 weeks won't be enough time for a newbie like him to get in good training. If he says he wants to then let him get his ass beat and learn a lesson.
Just follow through telling him he should not fight. If he insists, put him through his paces badly and give him a taste of what it would be like. Dont go that easy on him. Spar like you would against a serious fighter getting ready for a fight.
Good advice. Will do both... Thanks.
