Undisputed means no Interim

Why do they keep saying Jones is undisputed when cleanly there are 2 belt holders and a lot of dispute over who is number 1

Because Ngannou and Aspinall are the real HW champs and Jon’s HW belt is just Dana’s marketing gimmick so he can sell overpriced PPV’s and overpriced tickets to suckers.

Jones is a 1-0 HW who is cherry picking a retired firefighter who has not won a fight in four years as his opponent.

Its a joke. Jones Stipe in 2024 is almost not even worth streaming.

Because they’re idiots.

Or they think their audience is a bunch of idiots.

Most likely both.

Even Minowa’s Super Hulk belt, the first one designed by a 3rd grade girl was more legit than Jon’s title.

Twenty years ago, when Wanderlei was LHW champ he lost a split decision up at HW to Hunt. Imagine he won that fight and PRIDE was pretending he was somehow the undisputed HW champ despite the fact Fedor, Big Nog etc… were around and Mir was over in the UFC as champ.

Along with pretending Wanderlei was HW champ, Sakikibara also told him he could defend the HW title vs Dan Severn.

Thats basically what UFC and Jon are doing here.

Perfect comparison

He did/should have imo.

I agree with your post though, lol.

Jones is the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion since Ngannou is gone. The interim belt is basically a guaranteed title shot, it’s not a real title.

Except that interim belt has way more legitimacy than the “undisputed” belt. Aspinall has already had one title defence, Jones fought once.

Anyone with a grain of sense (or not named Dana White) knows who the real HW champ is, and it ain’t Jones.

I think there is some dispute over it being undisputed.

Interim is basically the acting champion while the normal champion is unavailable.

Interim should cease to exist as soon as the normal champion returns.

Which is why it never makes sense for the normal champ to fight anyone other than the interim champ upon his return.

If Jones retired today, would Aspinal automatically become the undisputed champion? Would Aspinal fight someone for the championship belt and just dissolve the interim belt? Or, would Dana have two people not named Aspinal fight for the undisputed belt then force Aspinal to fight the winner of that one?

Yes. That’s the exception where it’s not just a guaranteed title shot/number one contender belt.

There never should’ve been an interim belt in the first place.

Probably…lol…that way he could squeeze 2 PPVs out if the situation

The whole time he’ll talk about how Aspinal is the baddest man on the planet

Yes and that fight would be for the undisputed championship. In boxing, which most older combat sports fans come from with its rich history, the undisputed champion of a weightclass would hold all the major belts (3 or 4 depending on when it was) at that weight. When a 2 belt holder fought a 1 belt holder, they would announce that the fight was for the undisputed championship of the world. The winner would then carry on or pass on the undisputed title fight to fight. Until something happens, injury, stripping for not fulfilling mandatory challenges etc. Then the belts would get split up again and someone can go unite it to become undisputed.

As is this case, Jon Jones is neither undisputed HW champion nor lineal HW champion since Ngannou left without losing the belt.

It’s only the undisputed UFC championship. There’s never an undisputed overall champion because you have the PFL champion, the Bellator champion, the ONE champion, etc, all out there, which by default dispute the UFC title.
