Why are they singling out ATT when almost everyone does it?
failure at life - That's fucking bullshit. I'm tired of these assholes trying to "clean up" the sport. There is nothing illegal about an IVIt's definitely cheating. You're trying to gain an advantage by coming in larger than would normally be possible. When you add in the fact that weight cutting accounts for most of the deaths in combat sports, plus that blood samples can be diluted by using ivs, it makes sense to cut the practice down.
If steroids and epo are cheating, iv rehydration is just as much cheating. Fight at a weight you can eat and drink back up to, not saline yourself 25 pounds heavier....
Dehydrated fighters are easier to knock out and get brain damage because the brain rehydrates slower than the rest of the body.
gray maynard instantly comes to mind. That dude walks around at about 200 pounds. He cuts so much weight that his brain doesnt rehydrate properly and he gets knocked out easier than most fighters. Cutting weight gives you a size and str advantage but it also makes you easy to get knocked out if you are cutting too much. Likewise, Frankie Edgar is hard as hell to finish because he doesnt cut that much weight and his brain is nice and hydrated so hes much more difficult to put away.
There are diminishing returns to cutting too much weight.
Also if most fighters IV to recover from making weight then most fighters will have the same disadvantages when making weight. If a few of the IV using fighters have to change weight classes now then chances are that most of them do as well. I dont think this is going to change much as far as competition is concerned. Everyone is affected evenly.
Right now its about liability. If fighters become punch drunk from the UFC then thats going to put a dark cloud over the sport. This is simply the UFC taking care of its fighters and covering their own ass at the same time.
We all love and respect pro MMA fighters (in general) and dont want to see them with diminished brain function and kidney failure as they age.
Its about time.

Genghis_Khan - I think this is great. So what, fighters have to move weight classes now. Who cares. All the fighters were using IVs anyways except for a few so from a competitive standpoint not much is changing.

I think this is great decision
I highly doubt this slows the practice of drastic weight cutting.
Jimmy Wrassler - Why are they singling out ATT when almost everyone does it?Probably because everyone from there loves needles more than a junkie begging for change does. I'm pretty sure cole miller is the only guy there not the needle.

Honestly, drinking water is cheating.
So any UFC event in Juli is shot or there should be a grace period?

its because if you have a hematocrit value of 60 and you use an iv bag, its drop to 50 or below.
i don't think this is about IV's.
i think it's about WADA doing the test for blood doping, which involves testing for the plastic bags that the blood is stored in. an IV could cause a false positive...

Both ped s and weight cutting are a strategy to come in larger and stronger than your competitors in a given weight class.

what exactly is cheating? using something to gain an unfair advantage?
everybody can cut weight.
only some guys can use PEDs now.... the ones with enough money to ge tthe good gear.
^of course, before all the testing, they could all use PEDs, so it was more of a level playing field... but whatever.

weight cutting gives dimishing returns. If you cut too much, it makes you easier to get KTFO because the brain rehydrates much slower than the rest of the body. I think its safe to say that if you cut so much weight that you need an IV, then you are probably walking that thin line of "cutting too much weight."
We see this with a lot of fighters who cut a ton of weight looking awesome, fighting awesome, then BAM they get knocked out because their brain is so much more fragile and susceptible to being concussed in this state.
Lets not even start to get into the liability of it all when these fighters get punch drunk and have kidney failure as they age and the lawsuits start rolling in. Even if the UFC wins these lawsuits it looks bad and casts a shadow over the sport.
The UFC is protecting its fighters and protecting themselves as well.
fraz1001 -So many use them. You're gonna see a lot of guys dehydrated still going into the fights now.Steve Iceman Little - I didn't even knew guys used IV after weigh-ins. Isn't that dangerous?I think I read somewhere that about 90% of UFC fighters use IVs
Most dudes I just see them eat and drink like mad.
That tweet was sent by Robert Whiteford who is 1-1 in UFC and he uses IV

one is illegal, the other is legal. just like EPO or training/living at altitude.
it's not that hard to rehydrate in 24 hours. they all used IV's because it makes it easier and it was avaailable.
like i said before, this has more to do with the other testing they are doing, and that IV's can "mask" the test....
yep... and these same fighters will gas out faster and also be more susceptible to getting knocked out because the brain rehydrates at a much much slower rate than the rest of the body (even with an IV).
I actually think this is a great move and cutting weight gives diminishing returns on performance.

its not a move, this has been WADA policy for years!
