Miesha Tate’s return to the UFC has been with mixed results. Miesha a former champion at bantamweight and a pioneer of the sport has hope in her quest for another UFC title. A loss to Ketlen Vieira has not held back the will of Tate.
Valentina the current flyweight UFC champion and a former bantamweight top five contender never clashed with Tate. Tate retired from MMA in 2016 after a loss to Raquel Pennington. Back to back losses to both Nunes and Pennington was enough to make her quit the sport.
Recently Miesha Tate made a statement. She claims she can go down to flyweight if that is what it will take to get a title shot.

Shevchenko seems unstoppable a truly great champion. “The Bullet” is two years younger and a little smaller but if Miesha can make 125 it will be a different Tate, a Tate we have not seen before. Tate at 125 might be a great fighter we just need to see it.
Shevchenko has really become the queen of the flyweight division leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind she is there to win and will. Adding Tate to the division might help add some interest into someone besides just Shevchenko who is the only woman in the division really getting any attention. Can “Cupcake” actually give “The Bullet” a fight? That has yet to be seen.
Right now Miesha Tate is still a bantamweight, so all of this is just hype but if it did happen this could be one of the most classic fights in UFC flyweight history. It certainly is a battle between two classic fighters and two greats, two champions and two UFC legends.
I’d watch it. Miesha actually has some skill compared to chicks like Jessica Eye and Betche. It’s time to let go of the idea that WMMA is fundamentally based on competition. It can still be fun to watch if we do that.
