I prefer PRIDE rules but I don’t think they were better, just different. If the fight would have played out differently is speculation. No one prepared for that but it would seem that Islam’s style is perfectly built for the UFC style of scoring, rounds and the cage

Last I checked Pride FC was dead and gone and they fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship under the unified rules though

Volk lost. It could’ve gone either way but the argument could only be made 48-47 either way. It’s not like volk got robbed.
The fight does however leave somewhat of a Diaz vs edwards taste in that even though Islam won volk was the closest to finishing and had a dominant end to the 5th round

Nobody is arguing that Islam didn’t win under the watered down MMA point oriented ruleset based on the non finish point focus work he did in earlier rounds (even though Volk was coming on STRONG as Islam was fading and forced on his back against his will and getting bludgeoned)…All we’re saying is that Islam knows what we saw…If you lock these 2 in a cage together and have them fight to the death, when you open that door , Volk is standing over a body. Real combat fans care about THAT not who racked up “points”.

Islam would’ve been stopped under PRIDE rules by a kick or a knee to the face.
I wanted the Muslim to lose. I wanted the dude UFC and the commentator’s were clearly pushing to lose. I wanted Volkster to win and Volkamania to run wild. But he didn’t. It was AT BEST 3-2 Islam. I just watched it for a second time and it was clearly a win for Islam.
Volk got out struck, out grappled, controlled and taken down the entire fight. Defending doesn’t win you a belt. It was close but not round by round
