Walt Harris statement following loss to Overeem

In the main event of Saturday's UFC on ESPN 8, Walt Harris was so close to stopping Alistair Overeem that some refs likely would have stopped it, but Dan Miragliotta wisely allowed the fight to continue, and 'Reem came back to win via TKO at 3:00 of Round 2.

This was Harris's first fight back since his daughter Aniah was murdered in a random attack last year, which lent the moment great poignancy still.

That guy is an absolute gem. Never felt that sad after someone lost. Walt Harris is the man he will bounce back.

Walt is going to re-watch this fight and realize how silly it was to throw that jumping kick when he had Alistair hurt in the first. If he stuck to throwing his hands he likely would have finished him. Either way I look forward to seeing him back again!

defenatly a fan of both..Im not a coach but i think he should have went to his back instead of all fours. But I will root for him in any fight hes in

Huge fan of Overeem but I was rooting for Harris this fight.

But wow awesome setup and head kick from Overeem.

I'll watch any Harris fight ever. Keep bringing him back.

Great fight by Alistair as well.

I was really conflicted watching that fight. I like heem but felt bad when he won.

I felt very bad for Walt also–because his step daughter died, not because he lost this trivial fight.

There is a lot to be said about an organization and an individual using a tragedy as an emotional tool in this manner but it’s not for this type of forum.

That’s about the last place. There’s whole articles about the topic. Let’s put it this way. You don’t people coming back from a tragedy and hearing a lot of fanfare from their employer and a nuclear physicist saying: “This research I’m doing to do today is the best damn research I’ve ever done”, unless perhaps if it relates to the cause of death. THAT’s really doing it in honor of a person instead of using it as a crutch for yourself.

Feel very bad for Walt, but he wasn’t ready. These storylines are good for the fans selfishly, but studies show that they do not work for the athlete. They ultimately turn out worse for the athlete whether he wins or loses, because it shows the poor guy hasn’t had time to really deal with it. Not a criticism, because he probably needed the money and thought he was okay, but not in his best interest emotionally. Very low on UFC’s part to use it as a constant promo. The media went berserk when this was done about the Von Erich brothers dying in wrestling.

I don't think he was ready either, you could tell her was hitting with anger and when he rocked reem he blew his load.

I'll guarantee he wasn't seeming reem but the dude who killed his daughter

You guarantee it? We’ve see a lot of these posts lately.

No doubt the emotional build up made him blow his wad early and gas out, but nope, I didn’t sense any anger or hatred towards Reem.

I didn’t either. Never thought of it though. I wonder if that could be a compensatory thing that can happen. Who knows? It’s such a devastating loss that who knows how anyone would or could handle it.

Ill call your guarantee.

What a stupid statement.

What that poor father went through is beyond a nightmare.

Agreed. The NFL draft was nothing but the same thing. Marketing yourself/others misfortunes and tragedies is gross. I hope the Harris house finds some peace with the passing time.

act.

trying to type " act." but the forum is omitting the " part of my post, very strange.

FML, it won't let me write the word C - L - A - S - S

The forums are behaving oddly.
