Wash DC BJJ?

I'm a blue belt looking for a gym over the summer. I'll be working on the Hill and living near GW. Any places people have had good personal experiences with?

If you have a car, I'd recommend driving to Falls Church and training with Ryan Hall at 50/50. The best option by far.

Train at BETA Academy with Nakapan Phungephorn.  Great facility in the center of the city with great training.

Beta Academy if you don't want to leave the city, Fifty/50 if you want to drive or metro into Virginia.

Depending on how often you want to train, driving can get pretty annoying.

Given where you're staying I'd recommend training at Yamasaki DC or Beta Academy. They are easily your best options within the city. Check them both out and see which one you like.

So I'm gonna check out 50/50 tomorrow.  When does Ryan Hall actually teach there? Is he full time or is he too busy with other stuff right now?

It's him most of the time.

Usually teaches in the advanced day time class, and the advanced class at night. What classes are you looking to do? And was this posted yesterday, or you're going to be in tonight? He'll teached advanced gi tonight but will probably be splitting time working on some MMA stuff with Thanh and Justin Rader.

Also check out Yamasaki DC, which is the closest gym to the area that you're living. The gym is on 14th St and R St NW. www.BJJDC.com

If you're working normal work hours, I don't think you're going to like the commute from the city out to 50/50 day in day out, but try it and see if it works for you. Beta is a fine gym as well, but it's not your only option in the city.

Yeah I'm hoping to make it tonight. My flight lands at 5. I shouldn't have any problem getting to the advanced class at 8 tonight. I'm staying out in Arlington. It doesn't look too far from his gym.

Unfortunately I doubt I'll be in tonight because my girlfriend flew in at midnight last night, I'm at work til 4, and haven't gotten to really see her yet, but I will probably be in Friday night for marathon roll and maybe open mat Saturday or Sunday if you happen to still be around.

As far as I know, Ryan should be teaching advanced tonight.

Cool well I'll be the blue belt wearing a univ of Texas shirt. I'll probably be able to make the open mat on Saturday too.
