Does anyone else feel BJ won that fight? He was consistantly pushing the action, landing shots on the feet. The only thing Machida did the entire time was take him down and hold him against the ropes.
I think BJ got robbed. (I know there have been a thousand threads about this but, it's interesting going back and watching it again)
I have watched it a couple times and it's actually somewhat boring, though BJ being in there makes it interesting in that sense. Few clean punches and a stalemate on the ground IMO.
It's crazy because Machida weighed somewhere near 230 in that fight and BJ was like, 184 or something like that. The fact BJ did as well as he did, it's just insane.
it was a close fight and i personally would of given it to penn due to the size difference and i felt penn was more the aggressor. honestly there may be some penn fan bias in there but that is how i saw it.
I'm not sure I felt BJ won but if you factor in the weight difference, he probably deserved a draw.
BJ won round 1, while Machida won the next two. It was boring and neither accomplished anything except taking up time. Still, I can see the argument for a BJ win. Both guys did so little that you could probably argue a 3-0 win for either guy.
bj is the only opponent machida has faced whos hands have looked superior
and machida's dominated guys like soku standing (someone who ko'd arona and rogerio)
I've watched it a few times and it is not the most exciting fight but I still think it is what makes me such a Penn Fan. the fact that he is truly a 155 pound fighter that can hang with someone at 240 who is a top fighter makes me admire his spirit. Most people try and move down in weight to give themselves an advantage over smaller fighters and instead he is trying to beat people with skill who are much larger. I think that fight could have easily gone his way and tend to agree with the rationale that because he was smaller and the aggressor maybe it should have gone his way but it's not judging criteria so I can see why they gave it to Machida.
The sport needs more matches like this imo. Guys fighting up in weight class is usually always interesting
