WEC 36 salaries

Although Chael Sonnen didn't get the big prize -- the WEC middleweight title -- after champ Paulo Filho failed to make weight, the WEC 36 main-card fighter did manage to take home an event-high $48,250 payday.

The payday, which was boosted by 25 percent of Filho's base pay (as a fine for failing to make weight), helped result in an overall disclosed payroll of $287,000, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with the Florida State Boxing Commission.

Wednesday's event took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and aired live on Versus.

The full results included:

Mike Brown: $18,000 (included $9,000 win bonus)
def. Urijah Faber: $14,000

Chael Sonnen: $48,250 ($19,000 win bonus)
def. Paulo Filho: $30,750

Aaron Simpson: $10,000 ($5,000 win bonus)
def. David Avellan: $3,000

Jose Aldo: $8,000 ($4,000 win bonus)
def. Jonathan Brookings: $3,000

Carmelo Marrero: $8,000 ($4,000 win bonus)
def. Steve Steinbess: $6,000

Danny Castillo: $6,000 ($3,000 win bonus)
def. Rafael Dias: $3,000

* - Filho was forced to surrender 25 percent of his base pay to Sonnen after failing to make weight for the fight. Filho originally weighed in at 192 pounds, and after he got the standard two-hour extension, he could only drop an addition three pounds. The five-round fight was then changed to a three-round non-title affair. Sonnen won via unanimous decision.

Rosholt made more than Brown? Does that make sense to anyone?

^^^^ Good Management^^^^

TUFF-N-UFF -  Rosholt made more than Brown? Does that make sense to anyone?

Because Rosholt was/is a really hot prospect and Brown was just known as a solid competitor?

Max

Faber also had $24 000 win bonus, that he didn't get this time.

All of Rosholts winnings go to Team Take Down anyway

I suspect Faber makes a ton of money from endorsements. It seems like it is that way in about every sport with the top atheletes.

That doesn't mean he should be screwed by the promotion.

Faber will do better on the next contract. He still has all the makings to be a star.

I agree. However, are you being screwed if you agree to it? Maybe he needs a manager that better understands his value to the UFC and got him more pay. I was shocked that he was paid so little, especially since his fight with Jens was promoted mainstream. Maybe there is more to the story (they got him the energy drink contract, he gets an appearance fee, etc.).

I would be pretty surprised if Urijah wasn't actually the highest paid guy on the card, regardless of disclosed pay numbers. He's the face of the whole organization and by far their biggest draw. And no, I don't mean sponsorships -- I doubt he or his management would say "Well, I get good sponsorship money, so my actual employer doesn't need to pay me."

Uriah also gets a free DVD of every event he fights in so don't feel too sorry for him.

The UFC has been known to give fighters much more than they report.

Dont think the WEC (with the same owners) would be any different.

I'm sure Uriah was paid much more.

He is a star, and deserves to be paid like one. The title will be his again, bet on it.

I'd bet he got a sizeable "signing bonus" kind of like the one Randy described before his hiatus(what's that being called now anyway?).

It also seems to me that the incentives to win/put on an entertaining performance bonuses are where the real dollars are. They usually at least double your show money for winning and the FOTN, KOTN, SOTN bonuses are higher yet.

Before I started seeing the amounts for the FOTN type bonuses online, I thought Pride's yellow card system needed to be implemented in the UFC. Obviously, athletic commissions in the US aren't going to allow that. Regardless, win and performance bonuses seem much better anyway. I mean, if your pay for a fight is $100K and you get yellow carded and lose say 20%, big deal, you still get $80K to butt scoot or LnP for 15 minutes. If you can double or even quadruple your pay by knocking your opponent's head off, that's some great incentive to get out there and bang.

its because of the contract that faber signed with WFA right?
