What are the 5 best UFCs ever?

.

"or What 5 UFc should a peole new to the sport HAVE to buy on DVD?"

Haadogei -  a 4th person voting heavy on early 90's. People are entitled to their opinion (I guess) but really it's not the same sport. To have a person prefer to watch Harold Howard or Keith Hackney over all the greats that came later in UFC like Liddell, GSP, etc.....I cant get on board with that.

Seems like if you think UFC has been all downhill since the mid 90's that you shouldnt bother still watching or posting on an mma site 15+ years later.

Early UFC is charming but not the pinnacle of the sport.

Certainly not the pinnacle of the sport, but I would have a hard time narrowing it down to the top 20 let alone 5.

Now if I am introducing someone new to the sport & suggesting the 5 most important to watch, they are all going to be the early events because with out understanding the fundamentals they don't grasp the intricacy of whats going on. Todays MMA is like watching the early events on fast forward, to truly appreciate this sport IMO you need to walk before you run or you just become a TUF noob that truly fails to appreciate positioning and loves to just watch guys stand and wang.

1-5

Haadogei -
sweepnchoke - It would take hours to work out, but I'd start with 2, 4, 8, & 10.

Agreed, that stuff isn't even MMA to me. Other than the obvious key figures (Royce, Ken, Dan, Oleg, etc.) many of the participants were laughable and the fights were a joke. It must be years since I've watched any of them, but when I do it just makes me so grateful that the sport is where it is today.

UFC 52 - fond memories of this. Chuck takes the belt, Hughes/Trigg II, some other fun fights.

UFC 116 - Pretty badass: Lesnar/Carwin, Leben/Akiyama, Lytle/Brown, Sotiropoulos/Pellegrino

UFC 117 - Epic, one of the best and most dramatic main events ever.

Here's one that got away because it isn't a numbered event, the TUF 9 Finale - Sanchez/Guida, NateD/Stevenson, Lytle/Burns

UFC 49 (and yes, 1-5) Phone Post

Come on, I hope you are kidding around. Historic, maybe, but the sport is so much better today. I find the fact that 2 media-type posters have that opinion to be odd.

After watching literally thousands of fights over the years, I can honestly say that my memories of those early UFCs are stronger than of the recent ones.  It was totally new, totally crazy and just the most intense thing ever.  Many of the fights themselves may be better now, but the thrill of watching back then will never be matched.

UFC 8 was also good for an old one. Frye and Goodrich both had great fights then fought a war in the final. The super-fight, however, was pretty lame.
