What Is UFC?

No coverage of last night's UFC yet, but posted an article to MMA Observer:

http://mmaobserver.com/what-is-ufc/

Hope you enjoy the read. Critisicm? Fire it at me.

"The only "captain of the ship" I have seen that compares to Dana White, in being able to steer a ship on a good course, is Steve Jobs at Apple."

I disagree with you.

"I have never seen a brutalisation inside the Octagon like I have seen in some classic boxing fights, where fighters have collapsed and fallen into comas in later rounds."

If you mean that they have fallen into comas AFTER the fight, then I agree with you.

Thanks for the feedback MMA Playright.

This post was written in the midst of a bender, and seen in the clear light of day it's a bit off in tone and general coherence.

Re the comparison of White to Jobs, I do think this is true in terms of being able to take a company and make changes that put it on the course for commercial success in a single minded and fast acting way.

Re my reference to boxing, I was thinking specifically of Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan (that fight is burnt into my brain since I first watched it). I have updated the article to reference this particular fight, since it's the rare exception in terms of fighters falling unconscious into comma while in the ring.

Thanks again for the feedback. I've updated the article to tone it down somewhat from it's original form. From now on I'll be respecting the fact you can't write about fighting sports while drunk. Doesn't work. Getting the balance of tone right is too important.

I didn't read the first, but I enjoyed the update.  I feel as a fighter I must believe I can fight under any circumstances, I depend on my coaches, refs, commissions and promoters(a little wishful thinking maybe) to keep me in check about that.

Thanks Katie, great to hear you enjoyed the read, and brilliant to hear a fighter's perspective!

At first I couldn't quite tell whose side you were on, but that was resolved by mid-article. It's a little too based in comparing boxing to MMA though, which while both combat sports are still worlds apart. However I appreciate the acknowledgment of Dana as being a strong leader and the UFC as being a world power in MMA and although its not the only organization out there, it's almost single handedly responsible for the popularity that MMA has today. I think that's something that a lot of Zuffa haters tend to ignore, but personally I don't see how you can.
Good article though, I'd love to see what you can do when sober lol Phone Post 3.0
