thanks

Basically a side choke but with no arm and from north-south
a pic is worth 1000 words
Big man submission, once it locked in there is no escape. Sort of thing that you have practice it over and over to get it right. Real easy to set up.
power
Back-up choke from north/south.
You lock deep around the head and lock your hands. Then you sprawl down and crawl as far back as possible crawling with your feet. This opens up the guys neck. Then you squeeze with everything you have. Big key is to keep the back of your shoulder against his chin to prevent him from working it back under your arm.
Exactly no power, if you can wrap your arm around the neck of the person in the north/south postion, it's like doing a reverse rear naked choke only differance is your using one arm to squeeze hard on the neck. Very good submission for the big guys.
very close to a neck crank/choke with big guys...
might be a stink choke on second look
I've heard it called the "slow choke" before because it takes about 5-10 seconds from when you cinch it to put the guy to sleep from loss of blood to the brain.
I have tried that choke before and have never gotten it to work. Is it really cutting off the caratoid arteries or is it more of a smother/crank?
I always call it the "Lat Choke", my favorite no-gi choke
I use to call it the "Ed Choke" (after Ed Appicella, the guy who taugh it to me, he used it to sub Ken Kronenbergh in a grappling superfight back in the day)
Its similar to what Tito put Sato to sleep with in ADCC
It is a variable of a Darce...
also known as a North South joke...
To defend that move...you have to take your forearm...and put it under the guys chin and push up. be careful you don't get armbared or kimura'd You can also curl your legs up and sometimes you can even get a tap out of it though very unlikely Usually the forearm forces the guy to move enough to free yourself. This is a good move that a lot of wrestler type fighters use...but its not very technical. I usually don't use it...but had to learn the counter
Monson uses that one alot. i think i've seen him tap 2 or 3 other guys with it; it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him go for it in his next fight too
he's good with it though, clearly
Larry Papadopoulos vs Ken Kronenbergh in ADCC 2003 Brazil first round,
I get abused by Larry with that submission, a 200lbs man squeezing your neck is not fun, :(
"didnt rogan call it a d'arce? its the same one he did in 101 subs"
I have some other videos with Monson and it looks like he winds half his fights with that choke
He looks like he killed him in that pic. Is it more painful than the Nog choke?
truewrestler, i said that same thing on another thread. i have a ton of Monson's fights and that choke seems to be his most common finish
"Is it more painful than the Nog choke?" No, the Nog choke is much more stressful to the neck due to the twisting of the finish.
