Sefo made tge right call on this one. If the ref isnt going to .ake the right call someone needs to step up and do it.
Jake got suspended aswell
I originally watched the highlight of the finish at the bar and thought that Palhares held it to long. I just watched the whole fight and I think the eye pokes were a result of Shields putting his forehead on Palhares face and Palhares pushing Shields face/head away. The ref wasn't saying anything until Shields started to complain and the finish was fine Palhares was already full throttle on that Kimura by the time the ref tapped him on his shoulder. Palhares didn't hold that lock for more than 1 second after he was instructed to let go. Stripping him of his title and suspending him is wrong. Just my ยข.02
Too many people in Sefo's ear.
Dont suspend him... cut him if you don't like it.
Let him go make money somewhere else.
Bottom line, Paul Harris is getting screwed...
The ref was closest to what is actually going on and he did not have a problem with it.
??
He is suspended hearing on September 13th. I can't blame him for being pissed though.
try2catch32 -The art of being delusionalWattMell - Daley punches someone after the bell and gets suspended from the UFC for life. Shields does same exact thing, no repercussions and gets title.Daley did it to sucker punch Koscheck, Shields did it as reaction
You have it down to a tee
Jake shouldnt have done that but I kind of understand. It's like at court case when the murderer walked off the victim's family attacking him.
Jake shouldn't have been suspended, he should be the winner. After the 4th gouge, the ref should have taken a pointed and asked "jake, can you see" ... His answer, and the truth is that he could not. 5 minutes later, after the doctor looks at his reddened and damaged eyes, pal hares is DQed, shields gets the win, and the Kimura never happened. After watching the gouges and round 3, does anyone think jake COULD see enough to fight a world champion?
thetattedbatman -jkd4200 - Why is nobody talking about striking another athlete after the fight? It was more a reaction of frustration and pain than it was a conscious choice of rule breaking. And given the damage that shoulder lock can do compared to any love tap of a "punch" from that position, I'm willing to overlook shields' infraction. That hold was bullshit
And the ref NEVER disciplined paul harris.
WHY?
Shields hits like a powderpuff when he's standing, so your're right, one from the ground probably felt like a strong breeze. However, it's still against the rules and he should be penalized. Many fighters are in pain and frustrated when the bell rings. You don't get a free shot for it.
