No, no one wants to see another straight up assault - and that's.what it wold be. Gus or Glover makes sense, Lyoto makes sense but the dude wants time to prepare.

The man with the longest current winning streak @ LHW besides Bones:

Interesting question. Hopefully it's totally unnecessary and Hendo is fine. I honestly think it would end up being Chael. This sounds - and to some degree is ridiculous. But it might end up being their best worst option.

If Hendo is out, the UFC would be in a dilemma: not only is their main event screwed, but if Jones is taken from the card, it ends up one of the top 5 worst cards in UFC history. Obviously, the first offer would/should go to Machida. Machida would need to answer a question: is it harder for (a) Machida to prepare for Jones or (b) Jones to prepare for him? Pending on that decision, and given that he already has a shot lined up (so he doesn't HAVE to take this), would he take the fight? My guess is based on his past decisions: he won't. If he does, problem solved. If not - we move on.

From there, you have Shogun and Gustafason. Shogun would sell, but is he healthy enough/conditioned enough to take the fight? Probably not. And Shogun knows Jones is probably going to be champ for a while and wouldn't want to waste his one last shot at him. Gustafason would most likely take the fight, but would it sell? Probably not. Glover, while very talented, has not done nearly enough to warrant, deserve, or sell a fight with Jones.

Chael always keeps in pretty good shape and would definitely sell the fight on short notice. Yes, he doesn't have the wins to 'deserve' a fight but there is something to be said about giving Anderson Silva his two hardest fights in the UFC. He would definitely be on weight.

I'm not saying this would be a close fight. And I'm not saying choosing it would be legitimate solely from an athletic perspective. But what other choice would the UFC have? If they brought in Cormier, he'd probably end up in the ER again trying to get down this quickly.

Hopefully none of this is necessary and Dan is perfectly healthy. Otherwise, my money is on Chael P getting another shot at the world title.

wow, great post.

Alex if he can make weight.

It would be devastating if Hendo was out.

Feeding someone to JBJ with a week's notice is just cruel and would be so one-sided it wouldn't be worth watching.

Might as well just pick a random poster from here and throw him in there.

Lyoto could make it, couldn't he? Phone Post

on a side note do u guys think nike will allow a sub par replacement for this fight or do u think they will make sure of a good match up because this is jones first fight sponsored by nike

no filter - you guys really think someone would take the fight on a weeks notice?

This is why I think it would be Chael. Is he deserving of a title shot? Hell no, but all that goes out the window if Hendo has to pull out with a week and a half to go. Anyone that is deserving of a shot will not waste it on this short of notice unless thy get a promise that they get a rematch with a full camp later and even then who can make weight in time. Chael more than likely is never getting a crack at Jones but with these circumstances if he gets offered the fight and takes it even a decent showing on short notice would probably put him in line somewhere down the road.

Will this happen? Who knows, but to me this would be one of the better options for all involved(UFC gets someone who can sell, Chael gets a title shot, and Jones gets to shut Chael up) and I am far from a Chael fan.
