Do you really think your fans give a fuck if you get a new sponsor? I mean really, do you?
This isn't Nascar where the competitors are identified by their sponsor. I dont give a shit that the Fertita's are getting paid for putting a Bud Light decal in the ring. Trust me, I'm paying attention to the fighters, not the floor.
Maybe UFC will become like Nascar. Maybe next fight GSP will come out wearing his Bud Light trunks and Serra will have on Harley Davidson trunks, and Goldie will respectively call them the Bud Light fighter and the Harley Davidson fighter. "What a great takedown by the Bud Light fighter.""The Harley Davidson fighter pulls off the huge upset."
yeah, seriously, why tell your fans you have a big announcement then dissapoint them with a fucking sponsor?
I mean I'm glad they are getting money, well, not really considering they keep raising ppv prices anyways, but when you tell me, the fan, of a big announcement I want it to really matter to me. Do they want to dissapoint people with their big announcements. They could have just mentioned that Bud Light was the new sponsor at the weigh ins, plastered ads everywhere, and that would have been fine. Teasing fans with an announcement then basically saying "Look, Bud Light is gonna start paying us!" is just dumb.
If I could I would change my screenname. No one calls me that anymore irl, and i am pushing 30. And unfortunately Dangerman is already taken believe it or not.
They did that to hopefully take the excitement of yesterdays Elite XC/CBS deal. Announcing a new sponsor wouldn't of done that. Announcing they have a TV deal on ABC,NBC, Fox would of though.
Who here isn't going to watch Henderson/Silva because today's announcement broke their hearts for not meeting their Thursday level of excitement? Show of hands...
But Fletch, I cant think of any company that makes announcements when they get new sponsors. Sure it's a big deal in the business world, but nobody expects he casual consumer to give a shit.
Just plaster the fucking ads everywhere and plug the hell out of the sponsor like every other business. Don't make a "huge announcement."
Do you think the NFL teased a huge announcement to all of its fans when the made Coke their official soft drink? Do you think Tiger Woods held a press conference when he started getting sponored by Buick?
It's just pointless to announce your sponsors in such a fashion, unless it's part of the deal, which I doubt it was. The sponsors pay you to advertise. I guess an announcement is advertising, but it's pretty pointless unless thats part of the deal.
Im with Danger on this. I can give two less shits if they picked up Bud Light as a sponsor. Sure its good for the UFC and MMA for exposure, but the whole big annoucement crap was bullshit. Was I suppose to be jumping around at my desk and high-fiving my friends and co-workers b/c there stupid deal? Dana pisses me off.
It's a big deal for the UFC, but it's a small deal to me. I couldn't careless if it's the mickey's replay, bud lite replay, or colt 45 replay.
Does this mean that the fighters are going to get paid more, or that the PPVs won't continue to rise in price? I doubt it. It just means more money in the Fertitta's and Dana White's pockets.
"Who here isn't going to watch Henderson/Silva because today's announcement broke their hearts for not meeting their Thursday level of excitement? Show of hands..."
To prospective buyers of the UFC then this sponsorship announcement makes sense.
But to the general public, I could give two fucks that Bud Light is now a decal on the octagon mat. I'm glad that this may increase fighter pay but come the fuck on. Dana is just trying some bullshit to counter the CBS announcement which blows this shit out of the water.
Elias, you're a journalist so this is serious shit to you which is understandable. For the rest of us, not so much a big deal. To sum it up, I feel like this whole Super announcement compares to a girl checking you at 2nd base.
"Who here isn't going to watch Henderson/Silva because today's announcement broke their hearts for not meeting their Thursday level of excitement? Show of hands..."
I'll be drinking a Mickeys and reading results on the underground out of protest
Fletch I'm happy that Bud is a sponsor, I really am.
But, I am dissapointed that this was the big announcement. I would have been far happier to surprisingly see the decal in the ring. To tease something big and then deliver something that has zero effect on the action we see in the ring is not cool.
Could you imagine if the NBA teased this huge announcement to all of it's fans and then came with a new sponsor? People would expect something like a new team, a European league, a new playoff format, or a new 4 pt line or something. Not business news.
