For real, what do people think are the real reasons why Pride fighters aren't doing well in UFC?
anderson and rampage and henderson are doing fine...
Henderson had one fight against Rampage that he lost.
For real, why don't people realize that the man who defeated the LHW UFC poster child and chamipon Chuck Liddell is from Pride?
"Cage. Rules. Lay off."
Combine this with some are just getting older, the big brazilian teams seem to be crumbling and the UFC has recently been getting really good up and coming fighters.
Rampage, Hendo, and Anderson aren't doing well??!?!?!
Why is it that if EVERY Pride Fighter doesn't win EVERY Match, they therefore must suck?
A. Different (but superior, in my opinion) rules make it harder for them to win
B. They were over-rated all along, anyway. Many people have said how dominant Pride guys are compared to UFC guys, but the UFC REALLY DOES have one hell of a 205 division, and always has. To deny this is to have your head buried in the sand.
C. Added stress due to first time in the cage (possibly, for some) - and the added pressure of knowing that (unlike Pride, which liked to put together spectacle fights - i.e. Silva beating up Sakuraba three times, unnecessarily), in the UFC you HAVE to perform and win the fans....... without the fans - without being "exciting" - you aren't going to last. In Pride, they already had fans, contracts, etc. In the UFC, it's like they are starting all over from day one as brand new fighters that MUST prove themselves to the fans, more than anything else. Just adds more pressure.
"Henderson had one fight against Rampage that he lost."
no shit, sherlock. but the point is that henderson did fucking great in that fight. took rampage to a good decision... something chuck couldn't do either time. henderson showed awesome skills and has a bright future in UFC, especially at MW. everyone knows that.
EDIT: oops posted the same comment twice my bad
I'm not saying anyone sucks, just wondering why the majority of Pride fighters that everyone thought would steamroll over the competition didn't? Just wondering what peoples' takes on it were.
Ausgepich- it's mostly a reaction to all of the "Every Pride gatekeeper
would easily be champion in the UFC" crap that's gone on here.
The truth that people don't want to accept, is that fighters change.
There is no reason that Anderson Silva, Rampage and Forrest can't
improve their games while guys like Chuck and Shogun stay the same.
As soon as somebody loses the whole UG seems to write them off as
done.
Add stringent drug testing as one of the new factors for former Pride fighters.
I'm still just baffled by the fact that a guy who used to fight a 10 minute
first round, sometimes a few fights a night, gasses by the second 5
minute round. Maybe, it has to do with them not taking UFC fighters as
seriously
as they should. But how stupid do you have to be to make that mistake at
this point in the game???
Think about the Countdown show... Forrest is running stairs, pulling
heavy things across football fields. Pushing his body to the max. And
Shogun is like, "yeah, I jog a lot."
It's the rules
It's the cage
You haven't seen FEDOR in there yet
shogun didn't train good
shogun's marriage 1 month ago
Pride burned it's fighters out
lack of pageantry in the UFC
lack of budo to blame
shitty UFC fans/crowd
pretty sure any b-level fighter could've beaten Shogun tonight
Shogun too depressed from Ninja's loss
Crocop worried about re-emergence of the Soviet Union
shoguns been smokin the "pipe" again
lucky choke, can happen to anyone
lackluster performances do to demotivation and depression
Shogun had a collapsed lung
Upsets b/c of mismatches
calling him "shotgun" instead of "shogun" sapped warrior spirit
Shogun was on his period
Shogun caught the rib void
sun was in his eyes
because of the different lighting
"Henderson had one fight against Rampage that he lost."
A guy who should be fighting at 185, went to a competitive decision with the guy who R1 KO'd the long time 205 UFC champion, is a bad thing?
I think Nogueira looked fine against Herring. He's with a new camp, boxing looked pretty good. He was set to fight a guy he messed up pretty bad 2x before so I'm guessing there wasn't the highest level of motivation for him. But seriously, if anyone has a reason to fight like shit these days, it's this guy. That guy has had some brutal fights.
CroCop's mental preparation seems to about as random as Vitor's, even when he was in PRIDE. Didn't even train with a cage for his first 2 UFC fights?
Shogun looked pretty damn bad, but so did Ninja against Lawler. Look at Chute Boxe of today and compare it to 2002-2003. Their most prominent fighter is in the US, worrying about opening a gym in FL or whatever and training with Couture in Vegas. What Chute Boxe used to be is a far cry from what it is today.
Anderson appears to be doing just fine.
There seems to be a lot of shit that could be the reasons. Overrated? Probably not, atleast not for their time. These guys were awesome years ago, but so was Chuck. He's lost 2 back to back, doesn't mean he's overrated or a can. Give him time to adjust, shit's changing. Game plans seem to mean A LOT more in MMA than they used to.
Only CroCop and Shogun have done poorly.
Hendo, Rampage, Silva, and Nog have done well, 2of them came and KOed the current Champ to take the Belts, so WTF?!?!
You Guys are making Shit up as you go.
They are coming unprepared, either mentally, or physically.
Shogun was painfully out of shape. Cro-Cop didn't train in a cage or with elbows for his fight against Gonzaga and was just gunshy in his fight against Kengo.
By contrast when Jackson came in, he was in the best shape of his life and has dominated. Nog looked great in his fight with Herring except for when he got caught with that kick.
It's silly to say "Pride" guys aren't doing well when guys like Jackson and Silva both have been dominating in the UFC.
Cro-cop was not a surprise for me. I always felt he was overrated in Pride and I always thought he would struggle against the UFC's wrestler-centric opponents. Shogun was an absolute surprise for me. Whey he came so dreadfully out of shape to the biggest fight of his career is beyond me. Too much partying in Rio?
Aurelio fought Guida, who would look anyone look bad. Guida is just that good, and it's not like Aurelio was dominant in Pride to begin with. He had a huge win over Gomi, but was pretty much dominated in his other fights.
And you have to ask yourself, how much of a role does the UFC's drug testing play in all of this. Even Quentin mentioned that Wanderlei was not the same without his "juice".
I don't think you can label all of the Pride fighters as "inferior" when in reality, only four have struggled in the UFC. Herring, who was a gate keeper in Pride to begin with, Cro-Cop, who is and always has been one-dimensional, Aurelio, who had struggled in Pride before, and now Shogun who is the real mystery.
jar of flies has nailed it
Whether we are talking about guys who ONLY fought in Pride or not, Guys
like Silva and Rampage did at one point fight in Pride and WERE NOT the
best in Pride.
So the question is about why are guys who dominated in Pride. Who
dominated some of our current champs not doing well? It doesn't matter
if they fought in other orgs too.
And can someone PLEASE tell Shogun to find a new endurance coach.
Maybe someone should tell Fedor too, just as a preemptive action.
Werdum - wasn't that good in PRIDE
Aurelio - 3 out of 6 fights in PRIDE were losses
Nakamura - never beat a top contender and fought a guy whos gonna make most of anyone look like shit
Mishima - if you don't consider Anderson to be a Pride fighter then you can't consider Mishima to be one either. He has 3x as many fights in Shooto than Pride. Even more in DEEP.
don't be retarded
