It must be to avoid takedowns, but I don't know how he thought he could get away with it against Quinton.
ttt
It's really a tough call, you could make a good arguement for either guy. Anyone who gets in there with Chuck is in danger of being KOed all the way to the final bell. Chuck seems to hate shots to the body and Shogun loves throwing them. I think the result of this fight depends on alot of things, one piss poor split second decision could decide the whole fight. If you think either guy has a clear edge youre overlooking the other one.
Good analysis by thread starter.
I give it to Chuck based on composure and Shogun's lack of power. Composure against Rampage is a bad thing but against guys that come out wild, like Shogun typically does, Chuck tends to find his range and land powerful punches. I think Shogun is the more exciting fighter but I like Chuck's chances based on solid wrestling and great counter punching. I would still not be offended if Shogun wins because I really like to watch him fight.
Chuck's height will neutralize shogun's knees, I think this fight will look a lot like Chuck vs. Wandy
"1) Shogun doesn't have strong takedowns"
Yes, he does actually but I dont think he will be able to take Chuck down or if he does, he will have to work his ass at it or set it up very well.
"2) Shogun is highly aggressive with his somewhat sloppy striking. I think his knees and clinch are great by mma standards, but as far as trading punches goes, I don't think he'd fare well with a solid counter puncher like Liddell."
Agreed 100%.
The clinch is an x factor, we dont know if he will be able to do it on Chuck, we will have to wait and see.
Punching goes to Chuck all the way, if Shogun trades with Chuck, Chuck will win imo. The one edge Shogun has is speed but Chuck is more accurate and powerful.
I'll take Shogun; I like him as the underdog.
One more reason for Shogun getting beat.
Lets not forget the performance enhancement drugs.
Can't use'em the way they did in Japan....HGH...steroids.
A conspiracy theory...yes.
BUT...Why are most of the Pride fighters performing below expecatations?
Only Rampage & Anderson have been living up to our expectations.
"Shogun is highly aggressive with his somewhat sloppy striking"
If you think his striking is sloppy you're not paying attention.
"Can't use'em the way they did in Japan....HGH...steroids."
Actually you can use HGH in the U.S. and not get caught.
Mad,
Can you use it all day everyday as they may have done in Japan? (This includes the Japanese fighters as well)
OR...would you have to cycle it out a some point.
