No problem man.
Its like bodybuilders that bench heavy for many years... doesnt hurt right away... but can end up being real bad.
My dad is a good example. Both rotator cuffs are demolished... has a hard time even doing pushups.

You should hit the heavy bag "hard"
But by hard I don't mean as how most hit it.
By hard I don't mean muscling through the bag.
Naturally if your footwork, hips, shoulders and elbows are all doing their thing, then you should have a good impact when you hit the bag. good technique, smooth motions and proper body placement with at least some speed should produce a decent impact.
I will email this thread to emanuel steward about this topic and see what he says. His answer should put an complete end to this.
do it.
"Im not pretending to know it all.
Stating things I have learned over the years.
I have been in boxing gyms since I was 5."

Troll
yeah since I have a history of trolling you moron.
Emanuel Steward is a TUF noob!
the mouth is somewhat correct. You most definitely should not be punching through the bag. You should hit it as hard as you can, but if it doesn't move it doesn't move. Do not try and push through it.
maybe I am having a hard time wording what I am trying to say.
"Im meaning punching THROUGH the bag. Not hitting it hard."
So if the bag buckles as opposed to swings, you reckon it's a good hit?
Right.
should connect and retract

"So if the bag buckles as opposed to swings, you reckon it's a good hit?"
Absolutely
This tyson example is almost right on... you see him land and bring his hand back... it doesnt go thru the bag
My wording in the thread title is misleading.
Most people think hard = Following thru and stepping into it.
That punch is the extent of the arm and nothing more... he isnt stepping all the way thru his hooks and hes not catching the bag with room to go Thru the "Head" as if it were a punch. He hits it... the bag stops he finishes the combo and then has to start it again
yeah because of weigh transfer not because of the punch. A follow thru requires an extension of the shoulder thus the rotator cuff is injured over time... the way he is punching its just connecting and hes pulling it back... none of those are his KO punch as he isnt finishing the whole punch
U can see how he would follow thru if he was going to when he throws the slow punches to ask kevin questions... he rolls his shoulder.
I am no boxer by any means but as with any training variation is the key. Sometimes you do sessions for power, sometimes for accuracy, sometimes for speed. Each drill can demand different techniques during the bagwork in my opinion. A healthy blend of all seems appropriate.
Dude that shit is common knowlage.
