why does tim tap so fast?

in nogs guillotine and in fedors rear naked, he tapped almost the second the choke was locked in. it seems like he doesnt even try to fight it off, but taps right away. im sure if he actually tried, he maybe could have gotten out of one of them. neither of them we're dead locks. nog flipped over holding the choke, and fedors choke was modified. idk it might just be me, but i think he taps too quickly.

He was getting his windpipe crushed.

 Why Not ?

Well, I wonder if you would do any different. Be sure and post if you ever plan on stepping in the ring/cage with Nog or Fedor.

Residual effect from the Mir fight...

im not saying either of those chokes wouldnt have finished me, i know i cant hang with the top dogs. but being at such a high caliber, i would rather try and fight it and pass out, then tap immediately. that might just be me though.

Who hasn't tapped quickly to a tight Fedor or Nog choke?

Yeah, I'm sure Tim probably didn't want to beat the #1 HW as badly as you would have.

It wasn't a blood choke. Fedor was putting strong pressure right on the windpipe. Very very painful. Unlike a blood choke, 5-10 seconds of that can permanently injure you.

jesus whats with all the bashing? i know this topic has been brought up before, and okami even stated after tims fight with nog that he tapped too quickly. so im just bringing it up again. ive met tim, and i like the guy as a fighter. but to me it seems like he doesnt fight off submissions at all.

Looked pretty damn tight to me.

Robin.

Well, i have used and have had this same move applied to me...we call it a "short choke" and it's a modified Rear Naked, but unlilke that which has more of a blood choke, this is a straight windpipe crush...once that gets under your chin, like Fedor did on Tim, it will literally crush your throat.  Hence the fast tap once it's locked on.  I would rather tap then have someone pop my throat.

yeah okay, I get where you're coming from...just dealing with stupidity at work and it made it from an email to a post...sorry. Could it be that Nog and Fedor are just so slick with their technique that they sink it in faster...while other guys are "working a submission in" it's not as bad as it looks whereas when Nog or Fedor sink it in the countdown to really bad things starts sooner and runs a lot quicker..something you could feel as a recipient but not appreciate via watching?

this sort of choke (pressure applies across the front of the throat) is like a good joint lock in that you risk serious injury by trying to fight through it rather than tapping once it's fully locked in.

Because his head was about to be popped off

Melvin Guillard taps quickly and people give him shit about it on here, not sure why Tim gets a free pass, guess he did get his arm broken.

yeah im not trying to say i can do better,

im just pointing something out.

Yeah, I TOTALLY AGREE. Like that time Mir had him in that armbar and he tapped right away right....oh wait...maybe the fact that his arm was broken in THAT fight because he didn't tap has something to do with it.

Or perhaps it's because in both cases there was very little he could do to improve his position? Not everybody wants to get put out to prove their budo. He's a big lumbering guy and those are two of the best fighters in the world. If they lock a choke in, what are the odds he is going to slip out?

Basic Judo choke not a strangle you see commonly in MMA.
