Woodmansee Hyperlyte gi + black gis in general

I own one Hyperlyte already which is my favorite gi ever, and I was keeping my eye on this new release, but it looks like many sizes have already sold out (A2 through A5 all gone):

Did any of you manage to get ahold of one? If so, care to share your feedback?

I honestly don’t know much about Kristian Woodmansee; the only times I have seen him compete were at EBI tournaments. And I think there was a thread on the UG about him sniffing his girlfriend’s clothes/training equipment during her UFC walkout (don’t hold me to those details, I could be wrong).

Nevertheless, it looks like a cool gi.

Which brings me to the next question: years ago, I thought only top-of-the-food-chain-BJJ-predators were allowed to sport black gis, but I see them all the time now, worn by even the lowliest of white belts.

What do you guys think: is it okay for anybody to wear a black gi in this day and age? It’s completely out of the question for judo, but BJJ has always seemed to have a more relaxed culture when it comes to what gi you can wear.

If it's an approved color worn in tournaments (blue, white or black) and unless your school have rules otherwise, it's fine to wear at any level. Black & Blue are definitely the most popular gi colors where I teach. White gis look good, but are hard to keep cleaning looking.

If you are wearing a red gi with black trim or something like that, as a white belt... then that can be a little silly. But whatever, I think people should be allowed to wear what they want.

we have black gi's all over our gym... even a couple smart asses that bought some obnoxious yellow, red, organge gi's.

Im still not sold on black though. Just blue and white for me.
