Would Werdum/Cain look like Maia/Fitch?

At this point you guys are gonna think Werdum is my favorite active fighter (it's actually Gegard Mousasi) but he is probably just as good, if not better at BJJ than Maia.

Only difference I see is Cain is obviously a much better striker than Fitch but Werdum is a much better striker than Maia.

So do we see a repeat of Maia/Fitch with this fight? Phone Post

Maia has dominated with his takedowns at 170 and was quite good with them at 185 (ragdolling Chael, for example).

Werdum has had relatively little success with his takedowns and even less with keeping guys down. Couldn't take down Kharitonov, Arlovski, or Overeem at all; couldn't keep down Bigfoot, Roy Nelson, or Nog.

I really don't know how you'd conclude that there would be any similarities. Cain is a much better wrestler than Fitch, and Werdum is a far worse wrestler than Maia.

absolutely not. Werdum would never be able to take Cain down. He couldn't even take Reem down, you think he's gonna take Cain down?

Aside from the wrestling gap, Werdum doesn't put near the pressure on his opponents as Maia does. Cain will be pushing the pace. For Werdum, he would have to beat Cain on the feet to win. Phone Post

Cain vs werdum would most likely end up in a stand up bout.

As werdums stand up is ok it could be interesting bit cains cardio seems a lot better as i remember werdum gassing horribly in the overeem match. Phone Post

You make a good point. But I also think Cain would be a lot worse off on the ground against Werdum than Fitch was with Maia.

Styles make fights and I think stylistically this is a really bad match up for Cain considering how dramatically Werdums striking has been improving. Rafael is turning him into a monster. And I don't think Cain wants to wrestle fuck a guy with as much talent on the ground as Werdum. Phone Post

" But I also think Cain would be a lot worse off on the ground against Werdum than Fitch was with Maia."

I'm not sure about this at all, but in any case, this fight only goes to the ground if Cain opts to take it there.

I agree Werdum's striking could be the deciding factor. But again that makes it look the exact opposite from Maia / Fitch :P

I think Cain could handle the groundwork. But I'm fairly confident he can just outstrike Werdum and push the pace till a finish.

Werdum has been working like crazy on his wrestling. I'm looking forward to seeing him use it in his next fight (vs. Big Nog) as he's already displayed how much better of a striker he is over his last 2 fights (3 if you include the Overeem fight).

ugtbfme Cains wrestling is 100x better than Fitch

Werdum doesn't have the wrestling. Phone Post

Im not saying you guys are wrong about Werdums wrestling but I don't know why everybody is using OVEREEM as an example of who Werdum couldn't take down. He is twice the size of Werdum. It would prob take a guy with a solid background in wrestling to take down a roided Reem (which is what OVEREEM was when he fought Werdum the second time).

And in terms of strategy Werdum wanted to be on his back against Overeem because he felt confident he could beat him off his back considering that's how he beat Reem the first time around.

Personally, I think if and by the time Werdum reaches The Cain fight he will be leagues ahead of Cain in terms of technical striking ability (prob not power though). Phone Post

I'd also like to throw it out there that I think Werdum should've won that fight against OVEREEM. He out struck the shit out of Dumboreem. Phone Post

If you want to compare Maia-Werdum itd be more like asking would Chael/Werdum = Fitch/Maia if Werdum would drop down. Some of Maia's success is due to him not having to deal with heavier opponents anymore, and being able to dictate where the fight goes in a new smaller weightclass. Werdum would not be able to do that to Cain

Op is delusional faggot overeem twice as big as werdun lol

Orcus pretty much ended the thread

Overeem is a walking building though. Phone Post
