Today, White reiterated what Penn's lead counsel Steven Strauss had stated yesterday, that Zuffa had presented to the Court its belief that the belt was purely ceremonial. "There's a UFC champion and the belt— this is basically a trophy," White commented.
Does anyone else have a prob with the fact that danna is basicly saying that the belts dont mean anything?
Hey Arias Garcia Jr. I thought I read somewhere that they dont make a new belt everytime? I dont remember where I saw this but, I know I read or heard something to that effect.
the title and the trophy are 2 different things, Dana is right
the champion is whoever the org says it is. That's why Jens, Busta, etc aren't still UFC champs. KOTC strips guys all the time for going to the UFC and I don't hear near the amount of bitching about it that I hear when Zuffa does it
BJ knew he would be stripped if he left. He left anyway, and then when K-1 MMA got cancelled he realized he picked the wrong organization. I think its crazy for him to try to sue his way back into a job. Even if it works, as soon as he loses a fight he'll be out of a job, so i don't see why he even bothers
Wrong... Interim, real, trophy, whatever... it all the UFC's fancy... Whether they have an interim belt, or strip the "champ" it is not a real championship by any measure.
There is no rankings that they even claim to follow (none external, or even their own). The title fight goes to whoever is the name of the month (or quarter, since they only have 6 shows annually)... How can anyone even consider it a legit championship except to just try to convince themselves of it, because the UFC is the only big show in town... "It just has to be a real title... right?"
"yeah, Pride has 2 HW champs right now, why don't you guys bitch them out about that?"
Because that's not the "cool" thing for these sheep to do. Don't worry, when bashing Pride becomes the "in" thing to do amongst these geeks, they'll bash everything Pride does and praise everything the UFC does. Right now it's just the opposite. The few of us that actually think for ourselves and form our own opinions will just have to deal with it.
Who fucking cares what Pride does??? They established themselves as a side show a long time ago and they make no bones about it... But I will say, at least the Grand Prix Vhamp wona tournament (even though half of the brackets where fat pro wrestlers).
My criticism is towards the UFC and the facade of the champion... It is not a championship...
It is like Bobby Arum crowning Delahoya the Bobby Arum Champions because Oscar won a bunch of fights while under contract with him... But then not giving Hopkins that title, because he won't fight exclusively for Arum.
The only reason that the UFC title has any value, is becuase they are on TV, they do have some of the best names, and the fans are desparate to consider it a real championship belt because MMA needs one... badly.
When no one was watching the World Series of Poker, Dan Harrington was still the world champ in '95 and Feurgeson in 2000, and Brunson in '76. The venue, and the method of attaining victory, to be considered the best, is legit regardless of popularity (which there was none back then).
The promoters of the event (ESPN, Binion'sw, etc...) don't say "wait... Sammy was eliminated on the first day... so lets roll him back in on day three because we like him (Baroni). If he loses out again, we will put him in a heads up game with someone else so we can call him the champ."
He is obviously a great player, but up against the format of determining the champ in a completely objective and unbiased format... he lost the day. Perhaps he will win next time.
The UFC does not have such a legit format to establish the championship. They do not have a legit Championship title.
