Yoshida Vs. Barnett in March

Looks like the Roger Gracie rumor was premature.

It'll be Josh Barnett facing him on the Sengoku card with the hope of promoting Yoshida-Gracie later in the year.

Silly match up.

Credit to Jordan Breen for the news.

And yeah, Yoshida will get brutalized, but they will pay Barnett enough to carry him a bit, give him a moment or two, thus setting up the hype for Roger versus Yoshida.

You know its true ;)

Boooo.

why are they having the joke can fighter yoshida fighting josh?and no one can sign josh vs fedor?damnit

Looks like the Roger Gracie rumor was premature.

He was leaving to go to Renzo's to train on Monday, so this is a last minute change by the organisers i guess.

The Japanese love size mismatches. So they have Yoshida (who won olympic gold 16 years ago at under 173 pounds) fighting Josh (who is younger and a fit 260 pounds). Josh will win easily (no disrespect to Yoshida, who was a world class athlete). If Yoshida was really serious he'd be fighting under 170 pounds (or at heaviest, under 185 pounds).

But give Yoshida credit, he's one tough guy, with a lot of heart, who will fight anyone. I just hope he doesn't end up punch drunk.

Kano would be proud.

unnecessary fight, josh should be fighting better competition.

When the fuck did Yoshida become a can???

COME ON.

I pick Josh, but its not like Yoshida cant fight...

He became a can right around the time he decided to trade punches with Thompson, imo. VERY stupid and unprofessional strategy, especially considering he's a world class judoka.

Yoshida is not a "can" - but no way from a sport perspective is he a worthy opponent for Barnett.

But Yoshida is a huge draw and therefore means huge money for all involved.

But he is no threat at all to Barnett, who is much bigger and well-versed in submissions, which would be Yoshida's only hope.

And if Barnett has signed with Sengoku, I don't believe they require exclusive contracts so he should still be able to compete in the U.S. if he wants to (although obviously, the UFC won't take him now if he's signed with anyone else, not that Dana wanted him anyway).

Worked Fight?

ttt

Fucking lame ass shit, if you ask me....Why the fuck can't some
promotors pay some good money to Josh AND Fedor at the same fucking
time, so they can meet up in a ring and fight? Why, Lord, why?
Do we get Fedor vs. Cabbage next?

I liked the Roger idea :(

"So no Barnett on the M-1 April card now? "

He never was on the card. That was stupid people taking a rumor way too far.

So, has Josh signed with WVR now?

"Fucking lame ass shit, if you ask me....Why the fuck can't some promotors pay some good money to Josh AND Fedor at the same fucking time, so they can meet up in a ring and fight? Why, Lord, why? Do we get Fedor vs. Cabbage next? "

Because they couldn't make the money they would have to spend on both fighters back on that fight. So, they're going to have to build them both up in order to make any money on the fight.

Weither you like it or not, this is a business. It's isn't all for yours and mine's entertainment.

This is a business. It's about making money. Stop bitching.

"When the fuck did Yoshida become a can???"

Yoshida isn't a can, but he's forty pounds overweight, and fighting heavyweights when he should be fighting under 170 pounds (or 185 max), like he did when he won gold in the olympics.

You might as well have Matt Hughes fighting Barnett; that much size difference is huge, especially against a guy whose technique is as good Barnett's.

Yoshida took gold at the 92 olympics at 78kg/174lbs and gold at the 99 worlds at 90kg/202lbs.

He is currently about 220lbs i believe and is 5'11'' so this isn't akin to Matt Hughes fighting Barnett.

Would be interested to know how many judoka/wrestlers compete at the same weight in mma that they excelled at their own sports.
