51 points to 0 - Gui @ Rickson cup match (Vid)

51-0 then armbarred, did this guy push in line at the Acai stand or something?

I fuckin love that fake guard pull/ankle pick takedown he does. Wish my knees could handle drilling that Phone Post 3.0

I'm curious why he racked up that many points before going for the submission. Is Gui trying to set a record?

I didn't notice until about four minutes in that it was one of the Adamson Bros.

BTW is that a BT/Storm collaboration Gi? It's got the BT shield but also the storm logos.

If your knees can't handle going down that low, you can do almost the same thing, but then do a single leg instead of an ankle pick.

What I really want to hit is a fake guard pull duck under. The BJJ version of a super duck.

Why? That's my question... Was it a personal challenge? He smashed everyone there. Both bros did. Curious as to why he decided to do it. You could tell he did it on purpose too. He gave up the guard several times just to work on passing again and mounted a couple different ways. Wonder what the reasoning was... Phone Post 3.0

The only thing I can think of is that he's been flown out there by his sponsors, and rather than just smash and win in 30 secs, he's tried to put on a show for all the people who've come along to watch him (and Rafa of course) compete.

James

^this is a possibility. but it almost looks like he's just taking the opportunity to 'drill' a bit. was this his first match? was he warming up on this guy?

Storm kimonos is an asian company?

maybe they were out there promoting the kimonos and decided to use the tourney as a good practice run. They are probably getting ready for the start of the IBJJF season in January.

The Mendes boys are also sponsored by Bull Terrier (and have been for years).

He wasn't warming up. That's just how Gui puts on a show. Rafa was doing rolling back takes, some BJJ surfing etc

I don't really think there is a good reason for that type of behavior. All you are doing is embarrassing your opponent and I think that is uncalled for.

In wrestling, you eventually get a tech fall. Guy takes you down, turns you, lets you up, etc. until you get a large enough point advantage. If you can't pin them, great way to get team points, but still a dick thing to do.

I like the Mendes brothers, but this behavior is...obnoxious.

i like it. he showed a bunch of teniques. maybe the guy was a hipster or something

Rickson cup use ibjjf point system? Phone Post 3.0

Yeah I thought maybe he was using it as time to get some "live" drilling in with some guys he doesn't know. But u can't imagine why he'd need to with the team he trains with. I saw Rafa pulling some crazy stuff too. Guess they were just showing what they had... Wasn't crazy about it either, but hey, they're the best so who knows why... Phone Post 3.0

Who do you think they got it from Phone Post 3.0

Maybe they were showboating to market their online training website. Or just putting on a display for the fans.
