You have clearly never trained with a high level Greco dude. Those dudes are incredible. We have one at our gym, his awareness is insane, if you ever come up ill make sure he’s around. Eye opening

I’ve rolled with all American level d1 Greco and folkstyle guys, I’ve personally always found the folkstyle guys to be much harder to control on the ground.

My opinion might be biased because I’m a butterfly guard guy. But of the two styles, the escapes and rides from folkstyle translate better.

This is one of the few things Chael agrees with me on lol

U must be kidding ?

Or trolling

Ahahahahahhahahahahhaha

:rofl::joy:

No way karelin does all that work with out killer mentality and he is very explosive through hips picking up 280 lbs men! Some of these men have been known to cut down from 300+ lbs.

That sounds like fun.

I’m adding another comment here just to make it more clear, I’m not saying Greco guys are easy to control, just that relative to folkstyle guys the same size and level they are easier to control

People forget that one of Aleks greco opponents, Craig Pittman, was in VTJ 95.

He loses to Nakai.

No, I’m not saying he’s as good as Aleks. But the strength differential between him and Nakai is much bigger than Rickson and Karelian.

But the skill differential between Karelian and Pittman is closer than Nakai and Rickson, particularly that night in 1995

I don’t think anyone saying Karelian dominates Rickson just because he’s so much stronger and bigger is correct

fuck i thought there might be a video.

Not kidding.

He has always been slow and plodding. Linear power.

None of his opponents were ever surprised, they all knew what was happening, they just could not stop it.

One thing that is not often mentioned about Karelin is how flexible and agile he is. Incredible, natural dexterity.

If Karelin had any idea what to watch out for it would go very badly for Rickson. Karelin is basically 300 lbs of a wrecking ball. I know a wrestler who was in the sunset just as Karelin hit the scene and he said he was glad he was on the way out if this is what guys were becoming. And he had been a world champion. Karelin kept up with the lightweights in sprints and agility drills. He is also very intelligent and analytical. If you gave him any time to prepare for this, he would find a way to win. Superior athlete with size and strength plus a good foundation to learn.

What if he had no time. Literally 24 hours notice

I love Rickson.

But 1988 Karelin would kill pretty much anyone he faced. That thing wasn’t human.
