It was reported earlier today that the match against Alexander Gustafsson was in danger after Gustafsson had a gash above the eyebrow. MMAnytt has been a little while since been able to confirm this with Swedish MMA Federation which says that it will take several weeks for the injury to heal, and that Gustafsson to 99% will not be medically approved for medical examination which is scheduled to take place on Friday.
"Alexander has signed a covenant doctor who says that the wound over the eye will take a number of weeks before it healed," says SMMAF's President Gorge Sallfeldt to MMAnytt. "This covenant doctors have seen the damage live, while another two covenants doctor says the same thing after examining photos of the damage. Our doctors have looked at this injury, and it is very difficult to see that this will be medically approved to on Friday. "
"This is also a femrondersmatch and letting someone go into it with heavy scar tissue would not be an option."
Probably the UFC will now be forced to pull out of the match against Gustafsson Mousasi on Saturday 6 april and either set up the main event with Gegard Mousasi or replace Gustafsson with a new opponent. But if Gustafsson could have been medically approved, he of course still took the match.
"I want to emphasize that Alexander obviously want this game to be implemented," says Sallfeldt. "If it was his decision to move the match, he would take it, but this is a medical decision and not up to Alexander himself."
UFC has not yet officially confirmed this news yet, but probably looking for a replacement.
