Did he really have much a choice?
I feel it was not only clear the UFC was setting this fight up, but if he didn’t take it, everyone would be saying he’s ducking Pereira. He could have moved up to 205, but he’s already done that and failed. I just don’t think Izzy had a choice.
Weight cutting doesn’t help as much in boxing or kickboxing as it does in MMA because the emphasis on fine motor skills is much greater. If Alex does cut 40 lbs, he’s probably not going to be as quick and as coordinated as normal. Assuming most of the action is going to be standup, Alex might be the one losing on the scorecards and will have to try for takedowns.
I just wanted to use the opportunity of this thread to give him props
I guess he could’ve found a plastic bag and fought for air
Its probably one of the fights there Izzy wont be able to outrun his opponent or pick his shots to stay outside and not get countered
We may see adesanya with another gyno
Pereira looks rdy

Seriously.
I once thought Izzy hit the juice getting ready for 205. I now believe he was getting ready for the inevitable with Pereira. Given his own experience against Pereira and climbing the ranks at a wrestling-weak 185, Izzy likely years ago knew Pereira was going to be a future matchup.

LSS: Lanky Shoulder Syndrome.
i was watching the other day “then shit talking goes wrong” and Cruz was getting beat up… i noticed his skull size is like his torso xD enormous
I think there’s a chance he tries to incorporate some wrestling, mainly trying to secure a takedown within the final minute of each round. Otherwise, he will channel his inner Starnes for most of the fight. Unfortunately, there’s a strong chance the majority of the fight will look like this…
Possibly worse than the Romero fight
Possibly worse than the Romero fight
i think Romero fight was that way, cuz Romero is smaller, less striking experience(yes he is fuking cougar but prob didnt want to blindly jump into counters)
and Pereira is bigger,+ K1 champion? (GLORY fuking kickboxing champ), he has many tools and options to trade shots with Izzy, Romero was limited, any step forward and Izzy was preparing to use his reach and counter, easy to tell from a side, but Yoel prob could have went the Blachowicz route, Izzy tends to lean on his hips and leave them, while countering… dunno how it will be against Pereira
But it’s the same weight he already beat Adesanya at, twice.
First fight was close, could have gone either way. 2nd fight was close also, with Alex landing the haymaker.
This fight will be in the bigger octagon with no corners so Izzy will have an easier time not getting cornered. This will probably be a striking battle initially so Izzy won’t have to worry about takedowns.
The only thing about Izzy is that he depends on the lean back too often and that’s not good against a long left hooker like Alex.
That’s crazy, I didn’t realise he cut so much weight or was that big! Hope he makes weight for his fight with Izzy.

Defending against a powerful puncher is much easier with the bigger gloves though.
