The question was are there any division champs who “aren’t absolutely massive for their division?”
Leon is the welterweight champ, and he’s not “absolutely massive” for the division. He’s got an inch or two in height on Usman but different body type.
Are you suggesting that because of that height difference that Leon is a massive ww?
I was actually getting mad at Alex for NOT letting his hands go, especially his right. Then, he starts the 5th round on fire… and wins. He came close with some shots early that were KO shots. Izzy was quite skillful too BTW. It’s just that sometimes, for some reason, Alex wasn’t throwing yet moving forward. Almost head scratching.
In a rematch, he’d be no fluke if Izzy KOs him, he came close too, but even if he was ahead on points and is in a remtach, he knows he can get KOed anytime. That Poatan power is scary.
Yet styles make fights. Izzy has beat many good wrestlers while Alex would get G’n’Ped. You have to salute the UFC brass for signing Alex and doing this. They shook up the division big time.
The weird thing is i thought Izzy was big for the division but Pereira is a giant. Sports become Ultimate Weightcutting for the last few years. Remember when Hughes was considered huge for 170?
Alex will get the weight dialed in where he has cardio and size, but he has a long way to go with the grappling. He may have to fight more like Izzy to keep the distance
That would be hard for him to do. Izzy’s style takes a fair bit of agility and cardio. Alex is a wrecking ball and it would be hard for him to stay away long enough.
I think he got flustered from getting hurt in the 1st, almost KO’d and then out grappled later on.
I feel like after he got his second wind, one of Izzy strikes really woke him up, and he went for broke. This is something a lot of fighters just do not do.
