exactly and those systems before them could easily be looked upon as nonsense...all those systems are created by someone and tradition starts when others follow..it s not RULE universally but in itself and the art

When Randy fought Tim Sylvia, Eddie Bravo was still involved with the UFC. Bravo got on the mic and said Randy's guard passes were "black-belt level." So I'm sure his ground game is worthy of BB.
If anything Randy gets an "honorary" black belt. He can hold his own against Jacare in his own game. How many other BB can do that?

His MMA accomplishments speak for themselves and he more than held his own against Jacare in that sub match several years ago.
I have no problem with Randy being a black belt and neither should anyone else.

If this was a black belt in BJJ, people would be 100% right in the criticism, since Randy does not train with a gi. Whether his guard knowledge is at the level needed for a BJJ black belt is also an open question.
But it's not in BJJ, and after people found this out they're not criticizing anymore, because there's nothing to criticize. It's a non-issue now.
I consider myself a "bjj purist". However, I have seen Renzo and John Danaher give bjj black belts to people that train primarily no gi.
If it is good enough for them, then that is good enough for me.
Having said that, Neil is not a bjj blackbelt, and the black belt he awarded Randy was not a bjj bb.
I have no problem with it.
Heck, if you have your own system of grappling, you can give a bb to anyone you want- as long as you dont claim it's a bjj bb...and Neil or Randy never said it was.

Randy was on ESPN 2 after the fights last night and said it was a bjj black belt.
I like Randy as much as anyone but he does not train in a gi.
No gi, no belt.
