Looks to me this is a clear work. Anyone else thoughts?

That is embarrassing. The way not a single strike lands and they’re just trading off positions, I’ve seen more convincing works in WWE.
It’s been claimed by people close to Severn that almost every win he had after his UFC run were either highly questionable or undeniable works. He was a skilled guy but his career is a big scam. Severn took people’s money and gave them phony fights. Says a lot about his integrity.
Yeah and a lot of those fights have been exposed at this point. I have to wonder if this was his intention, why didn’t he go the pro wrestling route? Seems almost certain there would have been more money for him there.
Interesting scrambles…
obvious work
He DID go pro wrestling. Then went back to fake mma fights.
Fucking scammer like Shamrock
He did. He was in UWF in Japan and other smaller promotions long before his MMA debut. He won the NWA title in 95 before he won the UFC 5 tourny. He brought the NWA title in the cage with him. He would later wear his UFC belts on WWE TV during his short stint in WWE.
Severn continued to wrestle throughout his post-UFC MMA career as well.
I knew he did some pro wrestling but I didn’t think it was that much. I would have guessed he’d pursue it full time. But I supposed he wanted to get paid from both.
There were quite a few works in those days on smaller shows. Don Frye did a few as well. What’s crazy is the fight he is most famous for is a work and a huge majority of hardcore MMA fans don’t know it.
There was an old school promoter that also fought in the Midwest that was offered a win over Severn for $10k
He did NOT take him up on the offer
He did wrestling in Japan for the uwfi…takadas promotion. They did hard wrestling where the strikes were real but the outcome was predetermined. Dan’s striking was even horrible in that format to the point where the crowd would laugh at his leg kicks.
the one he got triangled?
I remember a few months ago on his IG he posted that him in his prime vs Aspinall would have been an interesting fight lol.
I love JMMA but a lot of it, especially in the 90s, was suspect AF. That shoot style pro wrestling was very common over there - UWFi, early Rings, Battlearts etc. Pancrase was pretty easy to work as well considering the limited striking.
Which fight are you referring to?
Was a big fan until I learned he was pretty slimy and Shannon Ritch 2.0, even as an old dude, Severn is an ox. Was the posted match supposed to be an actual fight? Looked way to WWF, I feel like they would have tried a little harder to make it look legit.
The Takayama one i’m guessing?
Met Severn a few years ago at a Comic Con believe it or not and while he seemed nice you could tell he had a big chip on his shoulder and a high opinion of himself.
