Thats the 3rd Western US D-1 Wrestling program in 3 years.

Didn't Cain Velasquez and a bunch of other talented MMA fighters wrestle at ASU? I thought they had a strong program?
WTF? This sucks. Another reason why i dont give any alumni dollars
they will most likely start a NAIA program, like many other schools that cant meet title 9 requirements. they have a lot more freedom this way, dont have to meet NCAA requirements at all, and can offer scholarships if their booster club has the funds.
title 9 really fucked everything up. so stupid
fuck girls softball
Looks like all mens sports except Football and Basketball should go NAIA. The fact that NAIA is constantly adding Wrestling while the NCAA is constantly dropping it along with other mens sports shows that it may not be due to econimics.
In the West in the last 3 years Goldenwest, Fresno State, Oregon and ASU all droped Wrestling.
I agree that wrestling is boring to watch but it is the sport I participated in growing up as well and to think it's being replaced with field hockey or some other horseshit sport is annoying.
Wow that sucks
I think watching 6'6 black guys from the ghetto shoot a round ball into a hoop for 48 minutes is more boring than wrestling.

I couldn't agree more!!!
JoshuaResnick,
I don't think you can be NAIA in only one sport. The entire university's sports program is either NCAA or NAIA. And a Pac-10 school like ASU isn't going to move to NAIA in football and basketball just to keep a wrestling program. It might make sense for some NCAA Division II and Division III schools to do that, but not big moneymakers in Division I.
UG racism at it's finest
wtf
this shit is getting ridiculous
A lot of great MMA fighters have evolved from this program. Currently Cain Velasquez, CB Dollaway, Ryan Bader, Aaron Simpson, and Kellan Fluckiger were all former ASU Wrestlers.

ASU is definitely the most accomplished wrestling program of the bunch (I think they're the only one to win a team championship), but Fresno State cut the program when they were just 2 or 3 years removed from the dominant reign of Stephen Abas, who won 3 NCAA national titles, and then took silver at the 2004 Olympics.
A damn shame.
LOL. TITLE 9 FOLKS, ITS ALIVE AND WELL. UNBELEIVABLE
dcvillain - fuck girls softball
You kidding? Girl's softball is awesome.
