Baldomir/Gatti Predictions

I like Baldomir in a close UD.

I think Baldomir will fall into the trap of allowing his Argentine pride to take over and will stand and trade with Arturo. He'll get sucked into fighting Gatti's fight and will be giving up too much power and will lose.

Close fight, but Gatti will win with a late TKO

Gatti in a late KO or by decision

I've not seen Baldomir fight but if he hasn't got much power and he tries to pressure Gatti, he'll get bashed. If you are going to fight Gatti instead of boxing him, you have to have plenty power to get his respect as he has a great chin and great stamina. Dorin played right into his strengths. If Ward could break him down, I don't see non-punchers doing it, regardless of how much they land. That's unless the wars are finally catching up on him.

mayweather had plenty of power to go with the speed gator

i disagree that Gatti has a "great" chin, but its at least average. the bottom line is that if you try to slug with him and you don't have the power for it, he will beat you, because he will take punches to give punches, and he has power

and from what i've seen, Baldomir is no Robinson or Rodriguez

not at this weight, not with mcgirt in his corner, not with his improved right hand and body attack

Look at Gatti's last 7 opponents and tell me that there's anyone there who compares to Baldomir

i think what gator is trying to say is that while mayweather did have power, it wasnt the power per se that gave gatti trouble, it was the speed.

gatti has trouble with speed. baldomir does not have speed. he does have a size advantage, and althought he doesnt not punch harder, he has a strength advatange if that makes sense. can gatti handle baldo's volume punching? can he handle his size? can gatti box for 12 rounds? will baldo wear him down in the later rounds? those are the ?'s u have to ask. baldo seems teller made for gatti. he comes straight ahead, doesnt move all that much. The thing is if baldo's size, pressure, etc. will wear gatti down enough to earn a decision or stoppage.

anyone else going to this fight? ill be there. im rooting for gatti 100%, but am a little worried. gatti gatti gatti

Gatti cuts alot of weight, are you sure Baldomir is bigger?

yea dude, look at the pictures when they are standing next to each other.

i mean, it is kind of hard for me to talk about this objectively because i am a HUGE gatti fan, but honestly..
as 2 to 1 underdog, with all the intagibles, baldomir would be an attractive bet.

You could also say that if you judge a boxer's age by the number of tough fights he has been in, gatti is actually older then baldo.not to mention that gatti's got a bum hand too.

Like I said, I am a Gatti fan, (hell my trainer was asked to hang out in the locker room with Gatti this weekend so there is a huge chance I might be hanging out with him) but if you are talking about placing bets, you have to talk about all this stuff. It is what makes the fight intriguing.

"baldomir is much bigger. he's been 147 his whole career. gatti turned pro at 126"

the fact that Gatti walks around north of 165 means more to me than the fact that he turned pro at 126

i actually think this will be an easy fight for Gatti. i said the same about Dorin.

i hope you are right

the boxingtalk writers are about 50/50 between the two, which surprised me. i think they're reading too much into Baldomir's win over Judah, although Baldomir hasn't lost in 8 years so maybe he deserves the backing

clearly it wasn't an easy night for Gatti, so i guess that shows what i know

Baldomir was clearly the bigger stronger guy. Gatti made a mistake in trying to slug with him. I'd say he's going to hang em up. He made the move to 147 as a last hurrah. He can't be feeling too good about his chances against the guys at this weight after tonight.

Baldomir sounds like he wants to fight Hatton next...

that would be an interesting collision.

time to hang 'em up. thanks for the memories, champ.

kind of interesting that a guy with no power looked powerful in his last 2 fights. i wonder if baldomir is just getting better or stronger or if he had 2 shot guys in front of him, or what the deal is?

Based on the shortcomings of his last 2 opponents, it's kind of hard to get an accurate read on just how good Baldomir may be.

I still think he ranks 4th among the current welterweight elite (behind Mayweather, Margarito, and even Hatton) but who knows.

Maybe working with Carlos Monzon's old trainer is going to greatly improve his game.
