Belfort: Camp trainers cost $100,000

UncleDavid - a quarter of a billion (considering they have made 39 millionaires, if that is accurate) is not that much if you break that up over 90 cards since 2005..

>nobody should pay 100.000 bucks for a camp when you have camps like american top team that only charge 5%

>on the other hand though he made his trainers a nice amount of money too, but me personally i would rather save every cent possible knowing that i'd have to retire at around the age of 40

What comes first? The chicken or the egg?

Belfort obviously sees that cash investment as a necessary part for him to reap the biggest financial rewards in the future.

It wouldn't suprise me if GSP wants compensation for the injury he recieved in Belforts camp.

I never claimed to know what he made just saying he made alot. Especially since he is such a huge star in Brazil the most famous of the Brazilian MMA fighters. I'd imagine he was compensated well for his contributions.

maybe he is just stupid with his money ;) since we dont know how much he exactly made, we cant really compare income and spendings. i wouldnt bet on fighters being smart investors though ;)

we sure as hell know that he spent 100k on something that he couldve got one hell of a lot cheaper

btw im highly doubting that vitor made a million dollars on a card that didnt really sell alot of ppvs, where he was "only" co-main event as well

It's good to shed some light on how much it takes to train at the top level.

Allowing steroids turns the sport into a comple joke.

Then you get into a financial war in terms of who can buy the best performance enhancers. So, fuck that too.
Steroids in my opinion are good for sports especially baseball, if only they didn't have this taboo they gained in the 80's, people don't die from steroids like its made to be seen, look at good ole governor Arnold he's not dead. <img src="/images/phone/droid.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

The contest then turns into who has the most athletic ability AND who has the best pharmacist.

I understand cash, and earning and spening and all that shiz is the American way, but how about leaving a sporting contest.... To be a sporting contest? I know it sounds crazy, but it might just work.

Did these same trainers also sell him 3 magic beans?

Wrestlers wont give me trouble Hendo and Randy say hi!! Phone Post

Ya lets bring up a fight from UFC 15 from 1997, and a pride fight from 6 years ago.

On a card that fucking exciting, that fight was not fight of FOTN.

AJ took him down but Vitor got back up right?! With help from the ref that is. Phone Post

man, that's expense.

I have no reference point to compare to other top-flight mma fighters tho.

This was his return to Fighting in Brazil for the first time in like 14yrs! He HAD to win, didn't matter what it cost him to get the individual attention he needed.

He'll make that 100k back in sponsor pay from Brazil no problem. If he would have Los he would never have been seen the same way back home again. Phone Post

I buy ppvs, where Vitor fights, to watch him get knocked the fuck out.

"good loard Thas a lot of money" Phone Post

Vitor made some sponsorship cheddar I'm sure.  It was reported that 23 million pair of eyeballs from Brazil watched the fight or some other insane figure.  I'm surprised that it could cost that much, but given what was at stake it was a very good investment.  This MMA stuff is big business now.

sevr1 -  Belfort needs to go to ATT. It'll save him some big $$.

so you know how their pro fighter contracts work? interesting.. what kind of percentage would he be looking at?

Depending on where you're at and what you can afford the level of payment a training or trainers is going to want will go up.

$100,000 is a lot, but then again how many people does that take care of? Vitor has been hugely successful and fights at the highest level. Now whether that price is fair or his trainers wants a bigger piece of the pie than they deserve, idk

If you can make it in MMA you will eventually rise to the top and when you get your opportunity you can make a lot of money. When you're on those lower cards making the fighter minimum you are gaining a lot of exposure and that alone will give your career a push. If you win in your debut and you were a local guy filling in for someone now you've got an opportunity to come back and fight again and if all goes well you will be quickly working up the ranks and you can now make a comfortable living(money wise) off MMA

If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much -
Authority Figure - $100K is a lot for one man to shoulder per training camp. No matter what he makes. He still has to pay taxes. In Brazil a $1Million Dollars is taxed at a rate of 27.5%.

So "if" he made $1 Million, he actually netted $725,000 minus $100,000 sparring partners. Then subtract "whatever" for his coach salaries, mainstay sparring partners, gym assistants, personal assistant (probably a family member), equipment needs, food and water on training days, etc. No one really knows, but I'd figure he still walked away with $600,000 - "if" you're "Million with PPV cut" is accurate.

Bottom line. They get paid. And they pay out a lot. If they are on the undercard, they certainly get paid much much less and pay out a disproportionate amount because some expenses are fixed/unmovable.

I don't get why people get angry when others are dissatisfied with what fighters get? None of you are upset when someone you care about says "you should be earning more". You say "you know what, you're right." Lighten up or at best, let people have their opinions. Dana doesn't give a fuck about anyone you, on either side of the discussion. lol

Odds are he runs it through a corp in the states so he will take off the money paid to trainers and all other expense he can possibly think of (including some that are not training related) and then only pay taxes at the end. If done right he will pay very little in taxes.

I'm no tax expert - but if Vitor had a U.S. based corporation or LLC that he uses to collect his payments, then he's getting taxed twice. That would make little to no sense. At the U.S. rate he might get taxed as much as 40-50%. After all, its not capital gains and he's not a U.S. Citizen, so he'd be taxed heavily. So while you're idea is interesting, its not feasible.
