Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney continues his plea for Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker to return his calls about co-promoting. With a potential bout between Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert Melendez a hot topic in recent weeks, Bellator has begun calling out additional Strikeforce champions as well.
Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard outpointed Alexander Shlemenko in the promotion’s season three finale Thursday in Hollywood, Fla. The Cuban-born judoka then challenged Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza during his postfight interview.
Rebney also said he wants to pit his welterweight champion, Ben Askren, against Strikeforce titleholder Nick Diaz.
Bellator has thin talent, so they need something like this. I don't think Askren is ready for someone like Diaz. I like Lombard/Jacare, though. I can see that going either way.
If Lyman Good had 1/10th of the jiu jitsu ability that Nick Diaz has he would have beaten Askren. Diaz would triangle Askren 1 minute into the first round.
How dose Nick duck people and how is he fighting overrated strikers. Noons is very dangerous striker and Nick beat noons at his own game. Askren would get dominated by Diaz on the feet and it's very possible he would get submitted being on the ground five rounds. You Diaz haters are a bunch of dummies he is one of the top p4p fighters. Diaz won his last 9 fights and the last one is the only to go to decision. I like mayham but he dosnt really deserve to be calling Nick out.
Askren would tool Diaz, IMO. People think Diaz has improved so much since leaving UFC but he has just been fighting much worse competition. Askren is far superior to diego in the wrestling and I definately see him controling Diaz to get a decision. I don't think Diaz has enough power to ko him for the brief time they are standing, and askren's grappling is too good for him to get subbed. This is just my opinion, I could definately be overrating askren here.
Good almost subbed out Askren and would have it he hadn't abandon the triangle for the arm bar. Nick would work Askren over. Anybody saying otherwise is kidding themselves.

I agree that Nick hasn't been fighting the same competition since leaving the UFC (outside of Gomi of course), but other than that, I see him subbing Askren for sure. Like others have said, if Lyman Good almost subbed Ben Askren from the bottom, Nick would definitely have a very good chance of pulling it off.
