Dana White has confirmed that Igor Severino will be cut by the promotion for biting André Lima at tonight’s UFC Vegas 89 event.

Severino (8-1 MMA) and Lima (7-0 MMA) collided in the second scrap of tonight’s thirteen-bout fight card from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

During the second round of the contest, Severino had Lima’s back while standing near the cage and proceeded to bite André on the arm (see that here). Referee Chris Tognoni stepped in and after seeing the bite mark on André Lima’s arm and quickly proceeded to disqualify Igor Severino for his inexcusable actions.

Immediately following the shocking result, several pro fighters took to social media where some called for Dana White and the UFC to cut Igor Severino for his despicable actions.

Those calls were answered by the UFC CEO, who informed MMA journalist Kevin Iole that Severino’s UFC run began and ended this evening at the Apex.

“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” Dana White said in a text message. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”

In addition to cutting Igor Severino for his inexcusable actions, Dana White also gifted André Lima with a “bite bonus”.

That’s according to a tweet from Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting, who shared the following news:

“According to Andre Lima’s manager Lucas Lutkus, Dana White told him after the fight he will give Lima the first “I Got Fucking Bit Bonus” :joy:

Igor Severino just threw his promising UFC career away.

A few hours ago, Severino was undefeated (8-0). At 20 years of age and recently signed to the UFC, the sky was the limit! In fact, he showed a lot of potential against his UFC Vegas 89 opponent, Andre Lima. Severino showed off quality kickboxing, strong grappling, and a fairly absurd gas tank.

Even if he ended up losing the fight, it would’ve been a promising start to a young career. Instead, Severino ended up biting his opponent. He was actually in a pretty good control position, but the young prospect decided to get nasty and unsportsmanlike anyway.

I’d rather get bitten on my arm than thumb to my eye or soccer kicked in the balls… Those two are much worse imho

Why did he bite?

UFC CEO Dana White will reportedly not condone Igor Severino’s actions in his promotional debut.

Severino (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who faced fellow debuting undefeated flyweight Andre Lima, was disqualified in the second round for biting. Lima (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) was defending in the clinch, and during the sequence against the fence, Severino bit his left arm.

Lima motioned to the referee that he was bit by his opponent, resulting in a pause in the fight and subsequent disqualification after the video review.

After the fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, White messaged Kevin Iole, stating that Severino’s UFC run began and ended Saturday.

“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” White said in a text message. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”
