body weight exercise routine

Just wondering if anyone has any good body weight exercises / routine that they do that could help me develop strength in both striking and grappling, thanks!

nowaydo, if someone's gonna do Ashtanga yoga, they should definitely work into it a bit more slowly with some regular style yoga first. Ashtanga is a bitch otherwise.

nowaydo, of course. I was saying because a lot of instructors of Ashtanga I've met don't show the "easier" version of some of the poses, so folks, in an attempt to fit in or in just pure stubborness, hurt themselves.

yeah, it's why I love the way Pilates is taught at the gym I work at. No more than 6 people in a Reformer class, no more than 12 in any other class. Small enough the instructor can really go around and do hands on correction if need be.

Wow, thanks for the response guys. I was also wondering, is body weight exercise better than weight lifting? I realise this is a very broad question as the results and benefits from both are different. I think my overall goal is to both gain strength and a bit of weight (im 155lb at the moment), im just worried that lifting heavy weights could cause long term damage in the future, i.e. joint/back problems.

If you suggest a combination of the 2, would I do them on alternating days? Or can you do body weight exercise everyday? Thanks for the help so far!

If you wanna gain strength and weight, generally heavy weights is gonna be the answer. I mean, there are plenty of tough bodyweight exercises that can provide resistance to build strength, but eventually (as your strength increases) that resistance won't be enough.

It depends on what you're doing for bodyweight. If you're talking about full fledged Scrapper's workouts, generally you're not gonna want to do them everyday on top of a weight lifting regimen. But if you're just doing a few sets of push-ups, pull-ups, bootstrappers, etc, then it should be alright to do it everyday.
