Bones Now Seeks ‘Massive’ Fight Against Pereira

Despite what you may have heard from The Clash, London is not calling.

At least not for UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who is losing interest in a potential showdown against current interim titleholder Tom Aspinall. Instead, “Bones” wants to pursue a “massive” fight against current light heavyweight titleholder Alex Pereira.

Right after he disposes of Stipe Miocic later this year.
“If Alex Pereira became champion of the heavyweight division, would you guys consider him the GOAT? Being back in the gym has got me thinking differently,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “That fight after Stipe may be the next biggest move I could possibly make. This killer has already defeated so many champions, and is already considered a legend to millions around the world. The most massive fight the UFC could make. Give Alex a chance to avenge all those great Brazilian champions I’ve defeated.”

Add it to the list of “super smart” ideas from the heavyweight champ.

Meh, I’ll care when Jones starts fighting more than once per year. It’s either trouble with the law or long term injuries with the guy. He’s not relevant if he’s inactive.

Jon Jones wants no part of Aspinall or Alex on the feet so it’s a smart move to go against the smaller kick boxer rather than the legit heavyweight grappler/all rounder.

Why is Junkie Jonny afraid of Aspinall?

What a sissy.

If Aspinall can cut to 145, I’ll fight him. I ain’t scared.

First headline I saw today was Pereira saying Ankalaev is ruled out for next fight for being “boring”…

Then it’s Jon Jones headline saying he doesn’t want to fight Aspinall, the Interim HW Champ, because “he only matters in the UK”…

As a fan it sucks to see these guys blatantly duck their literally most logical next fights because they are their toughest match ups stylistically so they need to come up with excuses to disqualify them

Would be interesting to see Gustaffson type of fight, how Jones deals with leg kicks and what Pereira would do to all those oblique kicks etc…
But jones would tap him out in the first lol

Would you guys favor Aspinall if he fought Jones? I’m a little out of the loop these days, but I think any Jones fight is interesting. I root against him, but he’s obviously unbelievably good.

Jones accolades probably make him a favorite against anyone.

I just think Aspinall on paper is his toughest fight stylistically because he has previously had his toughest fights with larger fighters and has not faced a well rounded, younger, larger HW like Aspinall. We have seen Jon dominate plenty of older fighters than himself past their Prime like Stipe is at this stage and we probably know how it would go if Jon fought a Kickboxer like Alex. But Aspinall is his toughest fight stylistically at the moment and I think he knows it.

i wouldn’t. some would though. i think most would agree he has a way better chance than alex at beating jon.

No shit he would rather fight the smaller guy who can’t grapple him lol.

A lot of us didn’t even fall for that shit when it was Gane.

Fight Tom or just go home Jon. Or at least back to LHW, the extra weight appears to be too much for your spine.

I wish he’d just go away for good.

Pezzo di merda.

This is like the back end of Anderson Silva’s title reign all over again. These “legacy” chasers always hold up their whole divisions for years trying to pick their own time wasting fights and avoid legitimate contenders once they know they’re losing a step. Floyd, Anderson, Jones, always the same.

““This is typical Anderson Silva, Ed Soares craziness,” said White. “Every f—ing time there’s a fight. He wants to fight ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson, then he wants to fight this guy and that guy. This is always the same deal.””

-Dana White a decade ago on trying to get Anderson to fight the Weidman/Chael/Munoz types over GSP/Cung Le/Stephan Bonnar.

Personally, I was tired of this kind of shit over ten years ago. Champions should be stripped as soon as they refuse to fight the number one contender. The whole sport would benefit from putting a stop to this kind of shit.

What happened to Stipe?

Last thing I saw he was part owner of a pizza shop as well as being a firefighter.
Then there’s him walking with a bad leg .
Jones has no shame.
